I saw this mobile first at my pal and I am immediately attracted after knowing its price. I thought that the mobile will be value for money with set of features it has and the brand Nokia. After doing some mouthshuting, I got an idea on the feedback of the mobile and decided to buy it. Samsung Carby is another option but Carby wearing out very rapidly and itssmart kind of looks did not attracted me as Nokia 5233s manly looks does.
Pros: The 3.2 inch TFT is the biggest asset. It gives acostly look to the mobile. The keys are smartly placed having short cut keys for Camera and key pad lock.
A smart phone with 3.2 inch touch screen with good styling at a price of 6200 with two extra colored panels is definitely a value for money package.
The battery life is good. With descent usage of Internet and music it backs up easily for 36 hours.
Camera quality is excellent when compared with previous models of Nokia. I hate Nokia cams until I bought this phone.
Ovi store provides many add ons, applications, themes all free of cost. The mobile is known for its flexibility and adaptability to many applications.
Phone s/w update is easy and simple. Updating keeps virus away. So do update ur phone regularly.
GUI is very simple and neat. Own-skin application(default in the phone) allow you to completely customize your desktop. Four short cut keys will be readily available in the stand by mode though.
Phone has lots of features. Touch is very responsive. some of my friends told that touch will not work after 3 months but after 6 months also it is working as new it is.
It has no 3G, but it is acceptable. If u want 3G pay 1k more and u will get Nokia 5230. So having two models to chose with is always good. The 2G internet modem of this phone can allow a maximum speed of 460 kbps. Google maps is another feature(add on not default)
Watching videos is a beautiful experience on this phone. It supports 360X640 resolution Mpeg4, 3GP videos. Recording the videos at 30 frames/sec so good recording quality.
It fell two times on the floor, still working very fine, so it is sturdy I must admit.
Cons: Dont buy this phone if you are a music lover. The music is awful. Headphones are Chinese like. They are stupidly lengthen and designed. The mic to the headphone is also worst. I threw them away in the second day and using Apple I pods earphones. However Jack is 3.5 mm, that is the only thing to cheer about. The music players bass is worst. We should add one song after other to the play list.
Nokia is cheating the customers, on the packet it says office compatibility but the phone cannot open .pdf, .xlsx, .txt, .docx files. Later on, I came to know that we have to download Office package by paying some money from Ovi store. Ridiculous. So go for mobile documents software it at least allow us to open and view these files [but cannot edit them:(
Only 4 short cuts are possible to place on the desktop. This is certainly a drawback for a smart phone.
USB cable is of 4 inches lengthen. I dont know how to connect to PC. Should I hang my phone in the air or what? what the hell is Nokia doing? A cheap ear phone and a cheap USB cable.
Connecting Internet in the PC via 5233 modem is the worst thing you could ever imagine. The Net comes and goes. The PC suite automatically try to re connect when the internet is disconnected. The sad angle of the story is it is also automatically disconnects the internet with out any manual command. When we try to connect manually error message will be displayed saying that "modem is busy". Later on I found that PC suite is automatically connecting the net, that is why modem is busy. Hell with this.
That is the best and worst part of Nokia 5233

After an year, the phone is still in good shape and condition. last week my wife accidentally slipped it, three lines on the edge of the screen appeared. Sure some damage is happened. With the regular software updates few of the problems I mentioned above are gone. Battery backup is still awsome. 36 hours is still easily manageable, with high amount of browsing the internet.
