Almost after 2 years I am down with keyboard on writing reviews, there were lots of things which have changed since November 2006 till date when I wrote my last review, however one thing which I had changed recently was my cellphone, I had Nokia 6030.
I first bought 6030 in year 2005, with the pricely tag of 5500/- then (silver color), it was best phone after 6610 which I had used few years back. This cellphone, which is the trimmed down version of any Bar phone in its category, did not initially picked up market but later in 2007 - 2008 this was the most common phone that I could see in market ( for me my office is market ha ha :) ).Although now outdated, let me give a brief idea / specs about this phone:-
Weight: - 90gms.
Display - 128 x 128 pixels
FM radio.
sms / mms - T9 / java games
speaker phone (hands free)
standby time on battery - 300h and talk time - 3hrs
Memory - 3mb internal, no expandable memory
Phone book - 250 address, phone book
Bluetooth, infrared , USB, WLAN, EDGE, Camera - NO
standard battery - BL - 5C Li-Ion 900 mAh
Looking at the specs above, this was true cellphone which could only serve purpose of speaking to other over the phone, no jazzy looks no new technology, hence peace of mind :) .
After losing 6610, I had to continue with Nokia due to desire to have Nokia and hence settled with 6030, used roughly for 3 years and still running (gifted to my dad in 2007, and then switched to moto razer v3i) I found this phone the most stable, rigid, tough and trust worthy phone in its segment against price tag.
I lost v3i within 7 months of usage and landed up with 6030 but this time 2000/- cheaper and sold it off and last month for 500/-, although my dad still owns the first one.
Let me show you few prons and cons of this phone, from a user who had used 2 sets of 6030 for almost 3 years:-
Prons of 6030:-
Best in class speaker phone, among its category. trust me far better than v3i.
Good reception quality for FM
Could create a folder in phone memory and could move sms from its SIM card to those folder, although overall memory size is limited
90 gms is too light to be in pocket
Rigid & tough phone, for which nokia is famous, carried the heredity of Nokia.
Battery life is cool, since there is no multimedia application running behind, hence battery utilization is optimized, talk time is as good as 3 hours, with single charge
Clear reception, no signal issues.
Easy short cut creation and navigation of menus.
Clear & crystal display.
GPRS enabled (although not that good)
Quick charge.
no camera hence better life of phone (atleast saved from those aliens who have a habit of poking into gallery if they catch hold of phone :) ).
Nokia users love, the key pad of Nokia, hence 10 points to the key pad, my first 6030 which I later gifted to dad and is still with him, trust me, does not have any problem with key pad, all numbers are intact (may be he uses it carefully :) )
Here comes the Cons:-
No resale, I bought my second 6030 phone for 3600/- and sold to @ 500/-.
no memory expansion slot available, Nokia could have upgraded the same version, with memory slot
although infrared is available but it’s of no use.
micro USB is there, but fetching cable to too expensive, and even if done, could only back up address book.
Could not backup SMS once moved to manual created folder.
I had seen many phone, b/w 6610 and 6030, I find 6030 coolest, cheapest & best phone. if I have to rate this phone, I would rate 10/10.
I wish:-
Nokia could have upgraded this phone with memory slot, along with blue tooth and no camera.
In built memory as good as 50 MB along with external upgrade.
3. A document viewer.
after having these 3 features this should have best & cheapest PDA in its category and probably best phone, ever used by working professional (where camera phones are banned :) )
i would request you all to spare some time for comments and rating.
PS:- its after two years and 7 hours of thinking that I had completed this review :) .
thank you all
