This particular review will be about my 3rd Nokia cell phone. The Nokia 6161 is a very slim lined cell phone that has a flip cover, which is really cool. This flip cover allows me to open the phone when I get a call and to disconnect a call by closing. Or I can hit the end button on the phone as well to end a call. To make a call I dial the number and hit the talk button. Really simple as with all cell phones.
I guess I should tell you that when I first got my phone I was so excited because the old one was getting old and out dated. And besides Jonathon dropped it in water and that was the end of it. The phone could not be repaired so I went to my local Bell South (which is now Cingular One) cell phone dealer because I still had a contract on the old phone. They allowed me a usage on trade in and I choose this new phone and got it for 149.99, which was at the time 50.00 off the original price of 199.99. However I still had to pay 9.95 a month on the old phones contract, which had about 4 months left. But I was allowed a new contract with the new phone. I suppose you could say that Bell South got money both ways uh!
The battery is a “zinc/nickel” battery, which means, (so I was told anyway), that you could charge the battery up at any time. With the old phone I had to wait until the battery went dead. And this new battery type has proven to be rechargeable at any time. (I have used this particular phone for 2 years now.) I also got a plug to charge the phone with while in my vehicle, which I use a lot, actually when ever I am in my car I keep the phone charging in case I have to make calls when stopped. (I really hate it when the battery goes dead! Don’t you?) The battery last time is about 1 ½ to 2 hours. (I should tell you that when you get a new cell phone of any kind the battery will most likely have to be charged overnight before usage.)
The phone has the capability to store up to 99 numbers, (like I will use that many spaces). But I have used many of them for family, work, church members etc. I can also set the features to suit my personal needs. The factory default is always available to convert back to if I need to start over or if I forgot what I did (which with me forgetting does occur often.) You can change the default passwords if you choose to do so. There is a clock feature as well which I can choose to show at all times. I also have the option for making the tone of touchtone keys sound different as well as choosing different ringing options, for instance I can elect from several musical sounds for my choice of a “ringing option” (My personal favorite is Joyful, Joyful) but there are many others. The kids like the “bug” sound or the “bee” sound. I DO NOT! Those get on my nerves! Lol… But there are many to choose from, over 40.
There are also features where I can retrieve the last number called or new numbers that I may not have stored and I can check the last calls dialed. I can also erase these calls at any time. I can also get the time length of any given call at any time during a call.
I mostly use my cell phone while Jonathon and I are out fishing. I always send the phone with my daughter when she goes to the mall or the movies. And I allow the youth group at church to use it. And the cell phone has come in handy when I was running late for a doctor’s appointment of broke down or stuck in traffic.
My cell phone as the capability to except messages through my local cell phone carrier. I do believe most cells phones can do this, however I wouldn’t know because I have never used another brand but Nokia. (When I got my phone the design was new for Nokia. They do offer other choices, which cost differently, depending on what you want in a cell phone.) The slimness of the phone allows me to put it my back pocket or slip it into my purse. It is easily hidden in my car should I not want to take it into a store. There is a cover that you can get if you want to pay for it. Also, a power cord came with the phone so that I can charge the phone up inside my home. And I use my phone when on the intranet.
I can play games like dice or snake, which are okay but not a meaningful part of my life. (Thank Goodness!) But, when Jonathon is driving and I am bored I will play them sometimes.
I have always trusted the name Nokia and most likely always will. For me there is no other brand cell phone. I am sure there are many out there to choose from, in fact I know there are because I see the advertisements for them, but when looking for a cell phone consider the Nokia brand.
Another thing I would like to say in selecting a cell phone is to shop around for the best prices and the best plan for your needs. And like I said in the beginning of this review a lot more people are now looking into cell phones, so don’t be fooled by anyone, check them all out, get what you can afford to get and be happy with your purchase. Remember that most contracts are at least a year. There are many ways to get cells phones now days even with bad credit. For instance some friends of mine pay for calls “pre paid” they are called. For some people this is great, for others like myself, I wouldn’t have it. There are also buy one get one half off or free. But please check them all out. There are people out there that are taking advantage of the terrorist situation and are price gauging. Even with cell phones and services.
I hope that this has help in some kind of way.
God Bless!
