I bought this phone 2 months back(Not before extensively researching about it). This phone truly lived upto my expectations. First of all, 6230 is a mobile phone.
Please don’t compare it with 7610, S700i, SX1 etc. They are all smart phones.6230 purely runs on JAVA(i think so). All the comparisons I make are only with the phones in its range.
LOOKS and SIZE: Similar to the 40 platform phones of Nokia(ie 6610, 6220, 7250, 7210..) Definitely heavier than 6610(my previous phone). DISPLAY: It has 65K and TFT. So screen looks bright. It is ot yellowish as you notice in 6610.The advantage of TFT is not only the quality of display but also contributes to increase in speed since the screen refreshes faster.The SIZE of the screen is same as in 6610 only the COLORS are better.
FEATURES:
Mp3- It will be easier for me to list out the features this phone doesnt have. It can play MP3.It support MMCs.I have a 256 mb card.Sometimes I feel I am using an mp3player and not a phone. Transfer atleast 128kbps mp3s and not lesser than that. NO Fast Forwarding or Rewinding can be done. Mp3s stored in MMC appear justlike a ringtone file. You CANNOT listen to mp3 and browse the menu or sms etc(if mp3 is stored in MMC).It is stupidity to store an mp3 in file in Phonememory since ph.mem capacity is 8 mb. An mp3 file at 128kbps itself will be around 5 mb.So you have to store it in MMC.
Radio- upto 20 Stations. you need to attach the headset/handsfree to the phone as it acts as the antenna. One important thing is the loudness of the sound is slighlty lesser than what it is in 6610. It goes this way
6610 Vol level 9 = 6230 Vol level 10.
I am used to the loudness of 6610. So before transfering mp3s from my pc I had to increase the volume of the songs and then send.Though for radio nothing can be done.
Camera- It has a VGA Camera.In my opinion, it is the same as the one in 6600.Since 6600s screen is bigger, photos looks nice.Zoom is possible only after shooting the photo.It has normal/potrait/night mode. Video recording - maximum 4 min and default 15 seconds in normal mode. Cam is only for fun. Decent clarity. Actually there are very less no of phones having 65k 128*128 pixel phones having CAM. Mostly cam phones have more than 128 pixels.But the quality is acceptable.Infact very good for a VGA Cam. One more thing. The rate at which the screen refreshes is amazing. It is really fast. No lag at all.
Interface: There is no other Nokia phone, which has this interface.(I THINK SO).It is intermmediate between 6610s, 7250s interface and 3220s interface. It doesnt support themes and pretty much looks like 7250s with better clarity and ofcourse a centre key. But one things is it is lightening fast. No other mobile phone or even a SMART PHONE can match its speed. According to me this is the BEST feature of this phone ’’SPEED’’. It helps enjoy all other features.
6600 gets slower and sluggish. SE T610 and Moto E398 will have to bite sand.Among the phones myself and my friends have used no other phone even comes near this phone in SPEED.
CALLS / SMS/ MMS/ EDGE-GPRS/ etc
They are all pretty much same in 6610s. In 6610 when you get an incomming call, the bg color becomes white and the caller id is shown. Here in 6230 the bg color DOESNOT become white. The caller id is shown on wallpaper itself.So if you use dark wallpapers you wont know whos calling.A REAL DRABACK.
EDGE: I have it from HUTCH. Browsing is really fast. I dont use it at all. I havent synchronised email and other stuffs. So I cant give you info regarding that. For browsing you need to have a phonw with bigger display. 6230s display is too small for it. The browser doesnt support frames, html and other things. IN A LINE : BASIC BROWSER WITH ULTRA SPEED.
BLUETOOH/INFRA RED: Really good. With E398, 6600 I have tried bluetooh and with SE t310 and my PC I have tried IR. Both worked excellently. I have only ir port in my pc.It takes about 5 min to transfer an mp3 file for me.
BATTERY, RECEPTION: AVerage batt life. Not as good as 6610. I get it for 2 days at the most. Even if you dont use cam/radio/mp3 it comes only for 2 days though I use these extensively. Amazing clarity. The speaker(NOT LOUDSPEAKER) volume is very good, louder than 6610 and 6600 and clearer. and Loudspear supports 24 chords and also is verygood for mp3/radio/calls.
On the whole: This phone for some reason?? ? didn’t become a sensation at all!Atleast in India. May be for the price Rs 15000 to Rs 17000. Really expensive. People opt for 6600 which is cheaper. But 6600 doesnt have radio/mp3. Though software can be put for 6600, mp3s get stored in the phones inbox and not the memory.6600 only has a bigger/better screen. But 6230s screen quality is not all that bad.
Same 65Kcolors but different no of pixels. 6230 is better than T610 since t610 has only 2mb memory and no TFT and an awful speed.And it has a slight edge over E398 because of its speed, /Radio/sleekness. But E398 has better loudspeakers(stereo spkrs) and display.
