Nokia 6230i - On the top, again

Helloooooo Mouth shut.com readers,

I am back with my third review at mouthshut.com and this time guess what ... IT’S A MOBILE PHONE. Yes, its about the new Nokia 6230i. This phone is a sequel to the Nokia 6230. The phone is slightly modified from the inside rather than the exterior , i.e, the fone has a better camera, more memory, better connectivity and much more when compared to its predecessor. And of course, there is an ’’ I ’’ added to the model.Talking so much about the fone, so let’s ellaborate it....

Firstly, the phone from the outside. At first sight, the fone does not seem to be different from the 6230. But when looked closer, it is different. The screen seems to be slightly bigger than before. The keypad has been changed a bit. A new navi-key has been added. The resolution has increased fom 128 x 128 pixels to 208 x 208 pixels. New 3d menu graphics is present. A better 1.3 megapixel camera has replaced the out-of-fashion VGA camera. The screen is the same- TFT, 65, 536 colours.

Now, from the inside. The fone has been loaded with a lot of features. The memory has been increased by 4 times, i.e, from 8 MB to 32 MB(shared). As per Nokia’s specs, around 27 MB is available at the user’s disposal. As far as connectivity is concerned, the fone is now equipped with infrared, bluetooth, pop-port. The pop-port is extremely useful in transferring files from computer to the fone and vice versa much faster. In the entertainment section, a visual radio, MP3/AAC player which also supports MP4 files. Video recording for 60 min is possible(depends on memory). Video files likes 3GP, MPEG4 etc. The ringing tones consists of 64 channels, which increases sound remarkably. The mp3 tones can also be used as ringing tones. Other format tones are also supported. The phone is provided with a memory card of 64 MB which can be further extended to 512 MB. But still not enough as most fones allow expansion upto 2 GB(that’s cool..)

Personal Identifications Management(PIM) features include tri-band operation, speed dialling, push-to-talk(new innovation from Nokia) which allows to use your phone as a walkie, conference call, photo call and much more. There is an integrated handsfree speaker too. The connection to the Internet is by WAP, HSCSD, GPRS, EDGE, xHTML etc.

The phone has three games:3D Golf, Street Racer, and Space Mah Jong and more games can be downloaded via JAVA.

Built-in applications include Visual Radio, Improved calendar (with week view), Notepad and voice memo recorder, Translator, World Clock II, Converter II, Java MIDP 2.0 with Bluetooth API makes downloading new applications easy.

The disadvantages of the phone are:-

- Bad implementation of T9 dictionary

- Phonebook sorting when synchronizing

- An average quality camera

- Memory card is hidden under the battery

- Sending a megapixel photo in an email attachment not possible

Summing it up

On the whole the fone is very good when compared to the last edition. Much more important features have been added to suit the phone’s calibre. Definitely, one of the best phones available to date.
