I actually wanted to write a review on NOKIA but since there is no such section called Cell phone Manufacturers – I have decided to pen down under this section based on my recent purchase experience of the Nokia 6230i.
Firstly, I will touch on the Nokia 6230i which I have bought three days ago from an authorized Nokia Dealer.
Earlier I was using the Nokia 6260 but found the Flip Open concept difficult to handle and thus, decided to switch over to the Nokia 6230i.
The Nokia 6230i is very similar to the Nokia 6230 and my review can be read on the same. But there are a few differences which I highlight below:
The Display size in the 6230i is Display size 208 x 208 pixels compared to 128 x 128 pixels of the 6230.
Camera resolution is 1.3 megapixels (1280 x 1024 pixels)
Internal Memory is 32 MB compared to the 6 MB of the 6230
MMC Card can be upgraded upto 512 MB compared to 128 MB of the 6230.
Other improvements are Push to talk, Visual Radio, animated 3D menu graphics, AAC ringing tones and alarms, short cut keys.
My experiences with the phone:
The day after purchasing the handset I called my Service Provider and requested for a 64 K SIM which they sent across to me in a couple of hours.
On asking my Service Provider for the activation of my new 64 K SIM – I found the hand set would not switch on. Later I tried with the 32 K SIM too but the handset would not switch on and finally I discovered that this handset only supports SIMS with 3.5 V whereas the laid down norms for all manufacturers in India is that all handsets should be capable to read SIMS between 3.5V to 5 V (I learned this from my Service Provider).
On contacting the Nokia Helpline they informed me that I would have to take my 6230i handset to the service centre for a probable software upgrade. But my concern is that what do I do with my Phone Memory as it cannot be backed up onto the MMC Card and if software upgrade is required it will wipe out my Phone Memory. Besides, the SIM carriage I believe is a part of hardware and what has the Software upgrade got to do with it?
You cannot do a Memory backup of the Phone to the MMC Card which is possible on the Nokia 6260 – what is the Big Idea of the MMC Card?
All Nokia Phones do not have the same MMC Cards – so if you are changing handsets between Nokia you may not be able to transfer the MMC Card.
The Issues that I would like all Nokia Users to consider are:
Why does Nokia not have a Swap Policy in India for a defective handset during the Warranty Period as this is what Nokia practices Worldwide and I can vouch for this because I bought the Nokia 6260 in Dubai and my Handset used to automatically switch off and Nokia had it Swapped immediately.
Also, why are no standby handsets provided of the similar model if your handset has to be serviced?
Why do we not have Club Nokia in India whereas most parts of the World enjoy Club Nokia privileges?
Nokia India’s Website is hardly anywhere near the Worldwide Website.
Why does Nokia not publish the Helpline Numbers on their Website or their Boxes?
Why have different types of MMC Cards for different models.
All Models having the MMC Card should be able to backup the Phone Memory onto the MMC Card.
The Warranty offered in India should be valid overseas too as we Indians do travel a lot and the Cell Phone is an integral part os us when we are on the move. Also, Handsets purchased overseas from Authorised dealers should have their Warranty valid in India too.
While purchasing why do we not have the options of all colours for that particular model as being manufactured by Nokia and why do we have to buy the only colour that the dealer has available.
Why has Nokia alienated itself from us Indians – the only contact is through the Helpline which is a Call Centre or through the website e-mail which Nokia never replies to.
The reason why I want all Nokia Users to consider the above issues are:
We Indians are probably one of the largest buyers of Nokia Handsets so why should we be denied privileges that a small country like Dubai enjoys.
Does Nokia take Indians for granted that we will anyway buy?
We must stand up for our rights or these Manufacturers will take each one of us for granted and continue practicing Double Standards.
I believe that till we do not Demand for our rights, our situation is not going to change and we would be continued to be used as a dumping and duping ground.
BELIEVE ME TODAY INDIANS HAVE ONE OF THE STRONGEST BUYING POWERS IN THE WORLD AND WE MUST NOT DILUTE OUR POWER.
