Was a nice product but not any more.

Advancement in Technology has been tremendous if we  look in the past. Today the whole scenario has been changed in last 4-5 years.  Today you can look around and notice that about 7 persons out of 10 are holding a mobile set. People are becoming conversant with the technology and the cost of these gadgets is also crashing day by day. This phone was costing about 15000 in 2003. Now the cost has come down almost by 50%. Isnt it surprising.

So many phones are being launched on day by day basis by various companies like Motorola, SonyErricsson, LG, Nokia, Samsung and many more. There seems to be a race between mobile companies and ultimately this is in the benefit of customers. Today you can have a phone with all common features like Mp3/4, FM, Camera, e-mail, internet etc. in just about Rs. 8000

Anyway, Lets now come to the point, I thought to submit my views on Nokia-6600, I am using this phone since last 3 yrs. prior to this one I used various Nokia/samsong/SE phones.   Nokia 6600 is a good phone with functionality packed features. A large colour screen at high resolution. Good quality built-in camera with 2X Optical zoom. The 6600’s built-in VGA camera includes three resolutions(640x480, 320x240, 160x120) and three modes(Standard, Portrait, and Night). The 2X digital zoom lets you get up close and personal, but the picture clarity/transition is rather jarring. The resulting snapshots are fine for a camera phone, if not quite suitable for framing. The camera comes with a handy self-timer, which you can set for 10, 20, or 30 seconds-perfect for getting yourself in the shot or steadying the camera on a solid surface for long-exposure night shots. Unfortunately there’s no flash or mirror for taking self-portraits.

This phone Includes most functions offered by a hand held PDA. but I feel its quite slow when compared to other phones in its category/price range. User friendly interface(A Nokia Speciality). Customizable fields in the contacts phone book to add or remove exta details. Web browsing is enjoyable due to the large screen.

Bluetooth enabled and sync with PC is no problem and there is no need for data cable.  Easily recognises other devices via Bluetooth(tried with my Laptop and other bluetooth enabled mobile phones). infrared also works fine on this phone.

Speaker phone facility is also very handy.

Well, it also records videos and playback is very good. Videos can be stored on the provided memory card(32Mb) however that can later be upgraded to up to 1Gb. I have a 512 MB card and stored lot of stuff on it. Some good games available such as PinBall & good old(or New) Snake.

Its quite heavy with 125g weight, sometimes feels like a small solid brick in the pocket. Overall a great phone especially if you need to sync with PC contact and keep track of your appointments etc.

Main shortcoming in this phone I found that it hangs sometimes without any reason. No on/off switch at the top is working and one has to remove the battery and restart the phone all over again.

Other downside is the lack of USB connectivity and desktop email syncing, and having the MMC card located underneath the battery.

Overall it was a good phone upto 2 years back, but I think not any more. there are lot of options avaialble in this price range and with ton of features.
