Great phone but for limited usage time

My dad bought this mobile as a gift for me in May 2003 for Rs. 16, 499. I was using a basic cell model until then and so I was very very happy to have a N6610.

The best thing(s) about this phone which impressed me are:

  1. Sleek & attractive look

  2. Beautiful display (wide screen -well in those days; now we get wider screens)

  3. Good sound clarity (Speaker & Radio)

  4. Phone book which can store various details like email & postal address and around five telephone numbers under the same name.

  5. Ample storage space to store SMS in various folders

  6. PC connectivity

  7. Call register which can store five call timings of the same number.

  8. Good battery talktime & standby

However this happiness was short-lived. Only after around eight months, there was a strange problem with my phone.

When my phone rings it never stopped even when I tried to answer or reject the call. Restarting the phone was the only option left. This happened only twice or thrice and so I didnt really bother to take it to a ’certified professional’.

Then after few more months, (after my mobile turned 1year old) many problems arised one after the other.

  1. The keypad used to get non-responsive; the problem worsened as time went by and a single restart would not help.

  2. The volume button seemed to have struck and there is a constant annoying beep tone and no display on the phone except for the volume bar. No amount of energy & time used to press & hold the volume button (to increase the volume) would help.

  3. Negligible (yet unacceptable for a phone worth Rs. 16, 499) dots appeared on the LCD. But these become conspicuous with certain images.

  4. The pop port on the phone which holds the USB cable gets loose and every time time happens only a phone & PC restart would help. Oflate I had started holding the USB against the port manually to avoid restarting the phone & the PC.

  5. Then I had to literally ’’search’’ for a Nokia certified professional who can repair my mobile (in a mega-city like Kolkata!). The phone was with him for 2months and I was charged Rs. 2200/- for the service. However the problems started on the very third day of using the phone (or rather say, the problems were never rectified)

I would recommend this otherwise good phone to only those who use their handsets for a limited number of days before shifting to another.

However those who expect to use their phone for longer time, this model is not for you. Even with the slashed prices (now the MRP has fallen to half the price), this model is not worthy.
