Its been a month I bought this Nokia 7210 Supernova mobile. The main reason for buying this mobile was its slim/good looks and light weight. I bought it quite in hurry, and I regret it. Apart from its light weight and slim looks, it has only drawbacks with most major ones.
Major drawbacks of Nokia 7210 Supernova-
Talktime - hardly 30 mins to 1 hour when the set is brand new. If you thinks its sufficient for you, then I think you dont talk at all on your mobile. Without any intention of promotion, I must mention here that my 3 year old Sony Ericssion still gives 1-2 hour of talk time.
Heating up of the set and battery - If you talk for 10 mins continuously, one can feel the heat. Another 5 mins and it will start burning your cheeks. If you have heard about Nokia sets/battery exploding, you will not dare talk for more than 10-15 mins continuously on this 7210 supernova set. Imagine the inconvenience. How can you stop talking in the middle of a conversation??
You better use the hand free all the time of long talks (anything more than 10 mins). For your information, I noticed that the battery is of BL series. If I am not wrong, its the same series which was recalled by Nokia in bulk last year. It seems they have not disposed it but used in a cheap crap model. On a serious note, guys who own this set, please be carefule while using it. I am going to buy a new mobile.
I cant risk my life. Few days back in West Bengal, a persons mobile (said to be Nokia in that news) exploded ripping off his stomach. It took four surgeries by the skilled doctors to finally put all the stomach parts back in place inside his body. I read this news in a local newspaper while I was in Kolkata few days back.
External Speakers - The volume of its external speakers are so low that one can hear and understand the voices properly ONLY in a toilet (when the flush is not ON), and nowhere else. This means that you cant hear it ringing in a little noisy place.
Vibration - Because the set is slim and lightweight, its vibration is light too. Difficult to notice.
Bluetooth - doesnt work most of the time. Doesnt detect other devices. Other device cant find/detect this set. I have accepted it like this - Bluetooth is not there in my mobile.
Battery back up software - It seems this mobile can only show two stages of charge level in the battery. Full and half. When empty, the mobile will simply switch off. In other words, one moment you see its showing full (even if only close to half back up is left), a moment later its half. One moment its showing half (when its actually close to empty), and moments later it switches off without any warning. And you keep expecting somebodys call, all the time wondering why is he/she not calling up. Sometimes the damage is done by the time you realism your mobile is sleeping.
Other drawbacks of Nokia 7210 Supernova-
1.FM stations - only 5 (five) stations can be stored in the memory. This can be a major drawback for FM lovers like me. Imagine tuning to stations manually every time you want to listen to radio.
Sometimes the phone automatically hangs or switches off when I insert the hands free plug in it.
The hands free in the box is different from the one displayed on Nokia India website for this model. It was a shocking disappointment for me when I opened the box.
FYI, there is no data cable or external memory in the package of Nokia 7210 Supernova. So all in all, if the price of data cable and memory card is included, its not a good phone for that price, considering the major problems it comes with.
I am not a mobile geek and use the usual minimum features of a set. I am sure an explorer type person will find more bugs in Nokia 7210 Supernova mobile.
I have not visited Nokia care yet. If at all I do, I will only complain about the heating of battery and see if they replace it as its a BL series battery. I wont give the set to them, as I know (from the many reviews/complaints of Nokia users) that they can only break it further instead of fixing it. Add to it the possible harrasment in dealing with them.
In the end, an honest suggestion - please dont buy Nokia 7210 Supernova mobile. If 5-6k is your budget, you can get good Samsung/Motorola phones and I am sure they will be better. This is the first and last time I have bought a Nokia mobile. If you can spend more, you can definitely get an excellent mobile (try to avoid Nokia). Bon Mobile!
PS: If you think, I am just some person trying to spoil the image of Nokia, PM me and I will give you my contact details. I can give the demo of all the problems mentioned in my review.
