Not upto the standards of a Smartphone

Nokia 7710.

Build Quality

This is one of the best phones when it comes to build where Nokia has done outstandingly well. I just used this phone for a week and then I felt it is not as user friendly as other smart phones in the market. So I switched my mobile. Its quite a big phone, and the display is in the landscape format, but when u attend the phone you have to hold it vertically. Suppose if you have to type some numbers, you have look it in horizontal format. That makes this very uneasy while attending calls. But if you have a bluetooth headset/hands free, then its fine. The quality of the LCD display is awesome. Though it is 65K colours, but it has a bigger resolution of 640*320 pixels. Which makes the Nokia 7710 display very crystal clear one. Its very difficult to open the back cover. Whenever I try to open, I will struggle with it. Even the dealers find it hard to open it. You have 2 stylus in the package and a stereo headset, the headset look very sexy and 128 MB Card with it.

Performance

The slowest smart phone I have ever used. Its damn slow. If you are familiar with Series 60 phones like Nokia 6600, you would fine a slowness with it though those were all not smartphones. I found that the Nokia 7710 is slow like that, but with better OS. So that makes it very difficult. Even for opening a message or to add a recipient to the message, you will atleast wait for 30-45 seconds for it to open the message/contac list. And If you scroll down the contacts, to go to the desired name, you will miss it because of the scrolling be very slow. The time lag between the press and the way it moves. This was really annoying to me, as I frequently use messaging. And its very difficult to handle this phone single handed. Since the display is in landscape format. You have to hold it horizontally and work, which makes this phone difficult to handle. Also Nokia used Series 90 which was newly introduced for Nokia 7710. So there are not many applications, hardly 20-30 applications overall. Also the buttons given with the Nokia 7710 is not that user friendly, you have to use both the hands to operate those. Also I had problems with the network, most of the time when people try to call me they hear subscriber out of reach, this is because even at low signal areas this doesnt have better reception power. Also many time automatically the system hangs itself and to you have to restart it. Also when you put any screen protector over the LCD screen, the screen tap was not as accurate as used to be.

Messaging

Though messaging is very slow as I mentioned above. All the other features of messaging like MMS and all worked very well. Because of the bigger display size. You will find better messaging and better browsing feeling. Email support is there for SMTP, POP3 and IMAP4

Media

This is where the Nokia 7710 rocks. It has 1 mega pixel camera, stereo music player. FM. All these worked very well. The camera quality was good. Music player and listening through the headset looked very good.

Connectivity

When it comes to connectivity, It has Bluetooth, NO IR, EDGE, HSCD and TCP/IP (Needs network support). tried connecting my bluetooth headset and other bluetooth phones it connected with it very well. The package contains the USB cable for you to sync the phone with the PC.

Pros

Microsoft compatible office documents, 1 megapixel camera, Radio, Better and Big Display and Flight mode.

Cons

Very slow Phone, Not much applications there & Poor reception

Conclusion

My overall experience with this Nokia 7710 is not impressive. Aggressive phone users will never be able to withstand its slow interface.
