My uncle got a Nokia E50 shipped to him
from England recently so I had a chance to get up, close and personal
with the much touted business phone.
The basics:
The phone is based on S60 Software (3rd
Edition), and have Symbian Operating System OS 9.1.
Call conferencing (upto 6 people), call
forwarding, holding, short numbers
Quad band GSM mobile network support so
can work on all the five continents.
Push to Talk (useless in India)
USB, Bluetooth and Infrared
70 Mb memory, memory card supported.
The Highs
Top of the line email client, supports
a long list of third party email clients including BlackBerry
Connect.
Attachments of MS Word, PowerPoint, and
Exel files can be viewed
Compatible with Acrobat reader and Zip
Manager.
Could be used as a modem.
Excellent battery backup (4-5 days in
normal usage)
And the lows
Low grade camera (only 1.3 megapixel),
no auto-focus so only suited for bright and sunny outdoors.
Media player dont support any file
other than MP3 and AAC. Surprisingly dont even support MPEG4 video
format!!
Really BAD voice recognition.
Final Impression
The phone is pretty strong business
tool and got a high grade organizer. I wouldnt comment on its
Internet speed as I havent tried that (GPRS wasnt activated), but
going by the books, it has Class 10 GPRS/EDGE which sounds good
enough. But below average camera and media player makes the handset
less appealing. The size too is actually very big when u compare it
to other phones and is a bit on the heavier side. Maybe I am not able
to fully appreciate it as the phone is not made for my category of
user, but my uncle seems to like it a lot.
