Nokia Lumia 800 : A Genuine Review

I bought the Nokia Lumia 800 about a month back and here’s my take on the device :

The Cons: After using it for a month  here are a few features which I miss from my previous devices :

1) No way to directly send a message when rejecting a call.

2) Cannot transfer files directly to the phone, have to use the Zune application, which is one poor application in itself.

3) Cannot transfer documents, pdfs, excels directly to the phone. Have to do that via Skydrive, which requires a net connection.

4) The most important feature which Windows OS 7.5 lacks is the basic feature of a complete device backup for restoring it later. The Contacts are backed up online to Windows Live account automatically, but would have been better if all the settings could also be.

5) Not many apps are available on the Windows Marketplace as compared to Google Play or iTunes Store. Also since being a new OS, the Windows apps are on the last priority to be updated by vendors.

Now the Pros for Nokia Lumia 800 :

1) One of the best Touch Screen experience on mobile devices and thats what matters in the end. I have used android and its no way near the Windows Phone 7.5 experience. Its Fast, its intuitive and there’s absolutely no lag, like in android

2) Social Networking Integration is the BEST in the world. My Contacts section or People Hub as called in WP, includes the feed from all my contacts from my FB, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts. I dont even need to download individual apps to check my notifications. Its completely amazing in how you can links accounts of the same person on all different social networks and his mobile into one. It makes communication easier. And I guess Communicating is what Cell Phones are for.

3) Never Ever Lose your Contacts and Calender henceforth. All your contacts and calender items are automatically and immediately synced to your Windows Live account, which has to be opened when you buy your phone. You can Keep it synced with your Outlook as well.

4) Live Tiles : One of the most innovative and amazing thing about Lumia 800 is the Live Tiles interface. The Live Tiles display the latest info from messages, emails, news, weather, calender etc..

5) The calender shows me the info of all my calenders..right from Google calender, to the Facebook Birthday Calender in the same feed on my Live Tiles. So cant miss any appointments or family events any more.

6) Nicely Integrated XBOX Live. Its got a great gaming interface, though I am not into it much.

7) Microsoft Office complete bundle of software is present on your mobile device. Nothing beats it.

8) Panaroma apps is excellent. You can side swipe on all the apps for its options. Amazing UI.

9) All the Nokia apps that are available are great. Nokia City Lens is an amazing app for exploring the world around you. Nokia Drive is superb GPS app. Its the only free GPS app which has a Turn by Turn free direction Audio. Also once you download the required maps through wifi, you dont need even GPRS to get directions.

In all I feel the Nokia Lumia 800 is an amazing buy. And now at around Rs 18000, its a super deal. People complain about the battery, but all the smartphones today have a battery life of around 15 hours. It completely depends your your usage of the various services and apps that you use.

I have not listed all the features on the phone, but the most innovative and unique ones.

There a few features that are missing compared to Android or IOS, but all the OSs lack some and have some features. Also MS is coming with WP 7.8 very shortly for the Lumia 800 users, so hope they correct some of the wrongs.
