Nokia N70s 94 reviews on mouthshut have spanned from Dec05 to Mar09, while its Music cousins 4 reviews are recorded during Nov-Dec-08. Till Nov-08, there was no separate category, which is now avaialble. But now the phone has been phased out.
I owned this phone from Jan07 onwards till Apr-09 when I got my new 5800. Now passed on the phone in an excellent condition to my 11 year old music lover younger son, complete with sim card and his very own Airtel no.
To say the least, N70 made life a lot easier from my previous Sony T310, even which was quite delightful for its generation. This review will benefit those who may be interested in second hand N70s still doing the rounds.
N70 Music Edition has a 1 GB Memory card which can house your collection of music in many forms, viz mp3, aac, midi etc. THe musi player does justice to most. Videos are also played well. The screen is quite wide although the keypad has smaller keys, but they gel with the ergonomics. The black Music phone was way superior in looks and materials than the silver non-music edition.
The phone memory is 21MB, which is quite good and responsive, if you make it a point to store everything on the memory card. Under normal circumstances 5-6 MB would be occupied.
I faced a problem of memory choking off-late. Rather than taking the phone to Nokia Care Centre and get into tizzy of problems well chronicled at mouthshut, I decided to update the firmware on my own from Nokia website thru PC Suite. Somehow I hit all the right buttons, after backing up my data thru PC suiteand my phone memory became unclogged. Restored all the data from my PC and the phone is now behaving freshly bathed.
The music capabilities are impeccable as ever, and the sound quality was quite good right from the beginning, I was quite fond of listening to my music on flights and while being driven on tours.
Internet browsng experience on N70 was very satisfying. More than that, the internet browsing on Laptop/desktop thru N70s 3G Modem was truly amazing at data speed of 114-460 kbps. It is much better than Reliance data card.
Nokia has loaded N70 with Sudoku which is a very occupying diverter. Other games kept my kids snatching it from my hands as soon as I came home. Now, its all theirs. Ive kept it as a reserve phone, if god forbid, someday my Nokia 5800 has to be taken to the public hospital called Nokia Care.
Nokia N70 has many pluses, topping all is the excellent design with a firm grip. The ergonomics is well complimented by the histrionics. Really enjoyed possessing the phone. Its front camera could be used to shoot vga self portraits which is not possible in Nokia 5800, whch is dedicated for video calls. The main 2Megapixel Camera is reasonably god in daylight. Shot thousands of great photoes as well as videos much more than my Nikon Coolpix.
So the proud owners of N70, do the firmware update and refurbish your baby yourself and future owners considering a second hand phone for 5000 can fearlessly go for the deal as N70 is still good to go, like my own phone even after several really hard incidents of phone dropping.
I still love to the way N70 fits my palm and gives a "sound" presence which my new phone(the light and delicate one) never would. Even the other N-series phones do not give the look & feel as this one. And they all proved to be regular visitors to the dispensary for irritant software issues.
