Your personal security officer!!!

A firewall for all those who don’t know is software, which tries to keep your system safe from hackers. Norton Personal Firewall is sold separately and also sold as a part of the Norton Internet Security 2000 software package. The installation is straightforward and easy. You have to restart the machine once and it gets loaded with windows and appears on the system tray as networked earth icon. Double click and you get the all-familiar Symantec interface.

By clicking on the options menu in the configuration window, you can change program options or view information as event log or statistics. The advanced options button presents you with a firewall rule window wherein you can modify the existing rules.

The statistic window gives what is really happening when you are on the net. You get info about how many packets of data was blocked and how many was let in. You can also find out which application is using the net.

The event log is where the real action is. The time and details of attack – the type of connection with the port number, IP address of attacker etc. . I got this firewall from my cousin in the States for $ 49.95 which is around 2300 Rs. It is a bit expensive but worth the money. If you don’t want to spend money, u can try the Zone firewall Alarm which is free
