I purchased this book when I spotted it in a bookstore intrigued by its cover. It was hard to put it down once I started reading it.
Its an autobiographical account of Betty Mahmoody, an American who married an Iranian. All was well in their paradise till they went to Iran to visit Mahmoodys family. Betty and her daughter Mahtob were made to stay there against her will with no possibility of returning ever.
The book describes in detail the culture of Iran and how low the woman are treated there. Though the book shows Iran and its society in low light but it also gives due credit to the kindness of some natives who helped Betty in escaping from the country.
The book is a beautiful tale of a mothers love for her daughter who can do anything to save her daughter from the clutches of a society that looks down upon woman. The book is very inspiring and teaches you not to lose hope against all odds.
