I want to talk to you guys about Office Depot. Why you ask? Because I have a gripe about their delivery service that I think you all should be aware of. I didn’t get my order and wound up canceling it!
Now the online site is great, but the delivery stinks, as I stated. And I don’t normally gripe about anything. But this time I have to because you all need to be aware that this did happen. A second chance for Office Depot in the future? Perhaps.
The Online Store
When you first go online to the Office Depot site you will find a very attractive site. You will also find all sorts of links for all of their many different products. They offer things like Office Supplies, Furniture, and Technology. And under each of these titles you can go to any item you want!
They have a lot of choices like: paper, pens, camera’s, fax machines, computers, cd’s, desks, chair, poster board paper and the list is endless! You can truly find just about everything you are looking for.
However I do have to say that the homepage is a little crowded but still easy to use. I suppose they have a lot to say to us consumers and wanted to get most of it out there on their homepage.
They offer a Business Center where you can build a website, respond to customers that you may have, improve your marketing and create a network. They offer an overview of each.
You can also go to other Office Depot sites from this location. Sites like: Money Matters, Sales and Marketing, Office Administration, Online Postage, Website Services and Online Staffing. They also offer an overview about this area. And I suggest that you take the time to read these overviews. They are very informative.
And while you are at the Business Center, scroll down to the bottom and go and read the Terms of Service, Apply for Credit, Find a Local Store near your area, Affiliate information and many others. You can also access these arrears from the homepage.
They also offer a search area on the homepage as well as through out each page that you are shopping from. This is a really great feature.
They also offer on the homepage weekly specials, rebate center, advertising specials, free with purchase stuff. I found each link to load quickly and was satisfied with the success of finding the items I wanted.

There is a site map offered on the homepage and a neat help section as well. In this help section you can find out answers to questions and if not call the above number.
Customer Service
I found their customer service via phone to be rather helpful. I found their customer service via email not as helpful. It took me 4 emails about my order to finally get a response from them. Of course at this time that 4th email had triggered a response from a manager because the staff had failed to respond on their own. (I will discuss why I had to contact them in a moment.)
Opening an Account
This part was really easy to do. I put my information in the right places and it was done! Just like that. Veri Sign, an online Better Business Bureau for you convenience, also recommends them.
Delivery Charges
Office Depot offers a next day delivery. Well this would be rather helpful if they actually did it. That is one reason why I went to them in the first place. I placed my order and paid a fee of 5.95 for the next day, which is their policy by the way and I figured what the heck, I didn’t have to fight the traffic or the lines, so it was worth it to me to pay that price. At least I thought so. However they do offer free delivery of 50.00 or more.
The Next Day
Placing my order one day and expecting it to be here the next day are truly two different things. I stayed home all day and waited for the driver to show up with my order. He did not!
So that evening I went to the Office Depot site and went to the ’’My Order’’ link and there my entire order could be found, along with my address, account number and various other things that I had. I can also see which delivery I am scheduled for that day.
I was able to see that the driver had indicated that I was not home. Well this simply was not true. So the first email was fired off, advising them that this was not true and to just leave the package at the door the next day if the driver came while I had gone to the school to pick my daughter up. ( which I have to do from time to time, but not everyday.) I also advised them that the church van was in the yard, so they could not miss me.)
Well no response from the email, and it was guaranteed to be responded to the very next day. And the next day came and went and still there was no response via email or via truck with my order. When I did leave to go get my daughter, I put a note on the door advising them to leave the package, come back at a certain time, or to please wait, but to please do one of these options. They didn’t do any of them. And naturally they came when I was gone which really made me mad, so the driver said.
And another email was fired off to them about this problem. And still no response. I am still not clear on if the driver ever came to my house or not! I really don’t think so because my dog would have let me known of strangers in the yard, she is very reliable that way.
Giving them the benefit of the doubt once more I waited a third day for them. Still a no show! And once again I was home all day, this time not leaving for any reason. I called their customer service number and they were very helpful to me. The lady I spoke to, told me that the driver was stating that he had come by and that he had tried to call. This was an absolute lie! I never seen or heard from the driver. So this made me upset.
But in the end I was able to cancel my order, my credit card got refunded and finally the emails were answered. The management offered me a special discount to use their online store again, and I told them, thanks but no thanks. At least not at this time!
How I Feel
And perhaps in the future I will try their home delivery again. I don’t know. I do however love their stores and they are easier to deal with than the delivery service online. And I do enjoy looking around their website.
Like I already stated above, it is very easy to get around and very colorful. I do highly recommend Office Depot online! I just am a little out to lunch still about their home delivery. I do admit that the management did try to correct the problem and I really appreciate them doing so. but you know how it is sometimes, first impressions are sometimes hard to get over.
I will most likely give them another try though. In fact I know that I will. And perhaps the second time around will be better for me.
