Traditional 7 Year Old Blended

Hmmm... Looks like all m favorite sections here in mouthshut are all filled. I’ve probably written to my fill? No actually, I thought that I’ll make this a little different. I, like most other spoilt brats do drink. But I’m pretty much sure I am not one who can be called a chronic drunkard. During those good old golden days when our friends group used to party together, we have tried almost all sorts of spirit (except local arrack) and now, I’ve only 2 preferences. First one is this good old black rum. Second one of course is the royal, scotch blend.

After all, there is a saying "Be a Roman in Rome". When you go out partying with corporates in the best of the suits, I would say etiquettes call it BAD to drink RUM. Scotch, Wine, Beer & Vodka in that order get a lot of preference. But hey!! with friends, I dont think show off gets any preferences. And as my friend Himanshu Ram says in his review, Bachelors’ parties are meant for pure enjoyment and scotch for sure will spoil all that. Vodka, wine, gin etc give a totally different sort of high feeling. RUM is the best if I’m the one to be asked that.

Old Monk is the brand we all prefer here and except for once, it has remained in our menu and we have all become true patrons of this 7 year old blend. One simple example of why Old Monk is ’coz never has it sneaked upon your drunken innerself. We also tried Hercules in a mega party which went on for hours together and a majority of the people who drunk were taken by surprise by its hard-core character. To be precise, 4/15 people only didn’t get high enough. (Tough nuts you know :-D). But Old Monk has been faithful and like mentioned in all other reviews here, has been pretty much consistent for over the years of our Bachelor lives.

Now, let me bring out some characteristics of this special drink.

Price: The first thing that most youth consumers do is look at the price of what they drink. most people here who partake this are students and at just around Rs. 30/- this is more than a cheap drink for anyone who wants to get really high. The only drinks affordable at this price are wine or any beer pint bottles. These two wont really give you what you expect of alcoholic drinks. Moreover, these two wont let you go back to college next day while Old Monk surely will. How? Lets See.

Effect & After-Effect: The exact way to prepare RUM is by curing molasses (remains of sugarcane after extracting sugar). So, by all means, this is a no-nonsense drink which is done by natural means. Now, if you must say, almost all other drinks are done in a natural way. But this is done by leftovers of natural food. The RUM is most preferred by sailors who are always on the sea. In our own true experience, we have had this in almost all seasons and have not had any major differences in getting high or getting sick. Secondly, this is produces a linear line in getting high and is not a sudden surge like in the case of scotch. I mean, what you drink is what you feel. Every peg has a difference and you can stop at any point. Finally, it has an undisputed reputation for being a "NO HANGOVER" drink. Take it to your limit and you can still wake up easy next morning. Even in the rare case of puking due to uncontrollable high, you will get the least or even in some cases NO hangover whatsoever.

Easy on Appetizers: All possible appetizers will do well with this drink. Be it chicken grill, roast papad, just vegetables, fruits, even simple mixtures or even pickles. Rum will do pretty well and you wont feel the need of a specific side dish. I mean, this is not professional in manner and you would not feel out of place with any food. Smokers also do well with this and this will taste just that little better with cigarettes than cigars.

Any Mix of Drink: Mix it with any thing and you wont feel the difference in taste. It can be drunk with plain ice (On The Rocks style). Many people would even take it as shooters. Just keep some salt chips ready and shoot 2-3 pegs raw and enjoy the "KICK" for the rest of the evening. It also does well with Soda. An awesome mix, my personal feeling would be with lot of water and a pinch of cola drink. Let me give you a small secret of a purely RUM drink. I mean, you would not lose any taste of the RUM while still enjoying only the sweetness of RUM. pour 60ml of it in a glass, add about 120ml of water and just about 30ml of any cola drink (preferrably Thumbs Up). Take this in one go and then smack your lips and you will get to know the taste of RUM.

NOTE: Taking this as shooters frequently will mean that you burn out your food pipe. This is a pretty aggressive HOT drink. It is really mean when roughed up with. Otherwise it is the best drink to have.

Please leave your comments behind and also, rate it. Mmmm, I still get the smell of beautifully grilled chicken with a perfect mix of a RUM drink even as I wrap this up!!!
