It doesn't have to be "happy" ending always

Oliver’s Story by Erich Segal

Book 23

Started Reading on: Feb. 22nd, 2010

The story was a sequel to “Love Story” by the same author. In the previous one they show how college colleagues Jenny n Oliver fall in love and get married n start their lives for an happily ever after to realize Jenny has been allotted a really short time to live.

The sequel starts after 2 yrs of her death, with Oliver n Phil [Jenny’s father] having a buddy-relation. Phil keeps on pressing Oliver to start his life all over again. Oliver who is an attorney moves to New York and is living his lonely life. He starts visiting a counselor to help him out of his agony. As time passes he meets Marcie a business tycoon who initially hides her identity from Oliver n later opens up when Oliver starts to complain. So Oliver starts to think he likes her and starts imagining a cozy life with her but only to his dismay. She is a total business woman who only plans out everything and tries to fit Oliver in her schedule. A gal of few words but which turns out to be too few for a relationship to bloom with Oliver. In the end obviously, they part their ways.

In between, they show how Oliver builds a bonding relation with his father and agrees to him towards the end on taking over his business empire after he retired to succeed him.

Sometimes, our true love is with us only for a while and no matter how much we wander and look around to start living all over again with an open mind, it never happens. Coz true love like many say, happens once, rest is all adjustments or means n ways to live a happy livable life. Our open heart for more true love realizes, that may be, there are other kinds of love to cater to in the life too.

Love for humanity, friends, parents, society, etc. And that’s how Oliver lived back in the town where he came from, but with a different perspective to live ahead.
