Now thats the question. On 17th Nov, thats my birthday I entered the theatre to watch Om Shanti Om. Now being a die hard SRK fan and seeing him come to some real action in Chak De India, I expected some thing good out of this. But Buzurgon ne kaha hai- karm karo, fal ki chintaa mat karo. And thats exactly what I did. My karm hiked the films collections by about Rs 450 as it was my birthday treat to my parents and the fal that I received in return- thats my dukhbhari kahani, sirf meri zubaani!
So the film promised a tribute to Indian cinema and the various ideologies involved with the whole process of film making. But the only message I picked from the movie was - MOVIE MAKING IS JUST ABOUT MONEY MAKING.
The characters were not real, the story had absolutely nothing to deliver and it looked more like a potpourii of karz and Madhumati wrapped into one paan called Om Shanti Om!Well guess I must go out to see some Ram Lila. Atleast the Vaanar Sena will entertain me a bit more than this.
Now for that question. Hero kaun? No, not SRK. I noticed that the theatre was almost empty, cotradicting the popular belief that the film is running housefull. Then I thought about their media partners. These were some really strong contenders and it involved a reputed media house, leading news channels and a very much followed Radio channel too. Guess SRK and Farah Khan know their business really well. So misguiding Indian public was easy. Indian Audience relies on its media very much. So if all these forces thats Press, Television, radio, internet combine and proclaim that the movie is good and running housefull, we take it as real verdict. The trouble is does the media realise that they had a responsibility of guiding towards the true and good. Looks like they have forgotten a whole set of responsibilities. rEASON- A multi crore business plan. Sad, but true.
So the real hero emerging here is the Indian Media. Its time we think and choose whats real and important. With the media, countrys topmost directors and definitely the most highle rated actor(nothing against him. SRK is still my fav) sold to revenue making and fooling the audience so easily, fuelled with a very smart strategy, guys wake up and look at the real picture. And if you dont, then dont complain about Indian film industry not making real news or setting right standards. Bye and Jai Hind.
