Oh My God is yet another of those no-brainers , only for laughs movie that has released , what is all the good directors in Bollywood doing? Or are they just following some trend or should I say , a sorry state of bollywood . Seriously people, gimme a break. This story is so far away from realism that I needed to really ask myself whether im alive!!! But yeah Im not here to talk about morality or ethics or the state of bollywood, who am I to judge that anyway. Lets begin with the movie then.
The story revolves around an antique shopkeepers grudge on god, because he thinks god hasnt ever been fair to him. There are lot of idiotic dialogues, some pretty obvious tricks that lead upto it. But whats the big idea? I have a grudge of god too, he hasnt been fair to me either , but I dont go around badmouthing him , even if I do he doesnt come down to teach me some lessons. But that has happened to Kanjibai, god (Akshay Kumar) literally comes down on from the heavens.;And what does he come in , a really funky looking motorcycle, (ghoda ghadi ya haathi bhi chal jata yaar). But now I really know something thats intersting god does keep up with our technological developments (maybe steve jobs was gods incarnation indeed - off topic - but the fact :) ).
Now this shopkeeper guy acts like a real baniya, hes quite a charmer when I comes to marketing his products. He uses a lot of tricks to fool his prospective customers , by anyway, or by any means making money is his passion. His wife is an exact opposite and tries to reason with him and change his ways but kanji wont change. He doesnt even believe in god either. Now comes a sudden calamity
all of kanjis dreams are destroyed or so I thought. But kanji always thinks ahead of himself. He cannot be fooled (even by god). but future had something in store for him .
Now hits the calamity, a devastating earthquake. Kanji looses everything. But like every samrt business man he had taken a few calculated steps ahead of himself. He had an insurance which could keep him safe or so he thought. But alas, it was not to be. As the Calamity was not anyway related to human intervention. So what does kanji do, he decides to take god to the court. (Man , isnt he a pain ). He takes on priests who oppose him to say that he will bring the wrath of god. The rest of the movie was something that a average man with little common sense can foretell. And its crap, its real crap!!!
I was disappointed not to see salman khan in the movie as the teaser had his sound and I thought he would have been a good narrator. But then I guess it was just a good marketing ploy. And it fooled me, indeed.
The songs and dance sequences were nice (prabhu and sonakshi ) and the story does give a very good social message. But the way it gives it , makes me want to puke. The lesson here is even if you have a very good social message to give if you are not giving it in a digestable manner, people are bound to puke.
Finally, if you are a believer in god , you can watch it once, but strictly on your risk. But if you are an atheist, then please dont waste time over it. You just make more fun of god.
God, please keep akshay in the heavens and return Kaka, he could have done a better job.
God Bless you all,
Kishore Singh
