Hmm.. A sequel to Desperado. Starring Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek. Also starring Jhonny Depp, the new craze in hollywood. It also has Enrique Iglesias and Eva Mendes just for kicks. Produced and directed by Robert Rodriguez, a promising, make-it-yourself director known for breath taking action sequences. Can it be boring? Remember the golden rule? If it can go wrong.. It probably will. Yes, It is boring. To my utter disappointment it is very boring. One upon a time in mexico is the sequel to Desparado and the finale of Robert Rodriguezs El Mariachi trilogy. Altough it looks very promising with the cast and crew, it turns out its just another kill-some-people, blow-some-automobiles, action movie. The only good thing again in this movie is Jhonny Depp. He acts as a CIA agent. When he is not fooling you with a spoon holding third fake hand, hes hinting you by wearing a tshirt with CIA written on it with big letters. He gives another good preformance in this movie. Enrique and Samla are totally wasted.
Salma has no other role in the movie except to marry antonio, give birth to a child and die. Shes hardly in the movie for 10 mins. Her role was so short, my friend screamed a long bollywood naahhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiii when she died. We couldnt believe the director killed her. We went with high expectations :-( . And Enrique acts a gigolo in this movie and is a part of Antonios team. Not much to speak about him too.. There are so many characters in this movie, not one of them makes a considerable impact. You cant expect a story from a action movie, but hers how it goes... General Marquez (Gerardo Vigil) and a drug lord Barrillo (Willem Dafoe) plan a coup to kill the president of Mexico and overtake the governement. Johnny depp wants the president killed, but he doesnt want Barrillo to overtake the government and wants him killed. So he tricks another FBI agent to kill him. He also brings in Antonio to kill General Marquez. To say it short, he playes everyone against everyone. Also the movie becomes so confusing, its hard to keep up with people changing sides. Or may be it was confusing to my five ounce, 2 inch brain ( Pentium 4 chip ;-) ).. And about the action scenes. Not very good. Its just blowing some trucks etc. You would have seen them in another movies. The only thing for which u want to go for this movie is jhonny depp. In the climax, his eyes are taken out and for a good 5 min he acts with blood pouring out of this eyes, which was a little too much, but well its a R rated movie. And the movie is senseless at times. In one scene antonio sits in front of a church in which he is supposed to meet someone, dream on flashback and then he comes back in to this world and heads to the church.. Like he just sat there to dream. I wouldnt recommend to watch this movie. And to people who go to watch salma hayek like me, its wortheless to go for this movie since shes only there for 5 min. One good dialouge: Jhonny Depp to a mexican: Are you a Mexi-can or a Mexi-cant ? Sri
