Actually, I wanted to write a negative review for the first time and it is on rediff shopping. However, I didnot find it in the shopping website list and it was in the general list, where it was recommended by 94% and even was highly recommended by Amrita (Believe it ;) )who generally is quite cynical. Thats why, instead of spoiling the rating there, I put this review here. I actually tend to agree that rediff is a good website except for the shopping part, which seems to be where they rake in a lot of money. Anyway, ive shopped quite a bit, mostly on rediff and a couple of books on first and second.
Why I am so mad about rediff shopping, heres why-
As is general human tendency, I too look out for cheap stuff, especially when its coming from someone reliable (Hey, now I know it doesnt work that way!) and am a rediffmail user and hence, was attracted one day when some sun sign shirts at 200 or something came on. They also offered Cash on delivery payment option, which took me in and 2 shirts came in after 15 days. 3 washes was all they survived! Then came some Indian patriotic t-shirt, which caught me in a soft spot and one more order went thru ( I wouldnt learn once- once bitten, twice bitten!) this had an attractive indian flag fingerprint on a black tee and looked quite good till it went thru one wash (Hey, I dont use stone wash, it is normal machine wash!) Quite a few white marks have sprung up on the t-shirt and not, instead of indian flag, it looks like the moons craters.
Ill tell you what, I am usually proud of my perseverance (till this one) and being myself, I still did not learn!
Rediff tempted the musician in me with an offer of a walkman for 150/- (Made in germany they said) and yet another order went thru. Now, this didnt come for 2 months and I got a email from rediff saying that they are sorry for the delay as they had too many orders (Tch Tch-All the bakras) and they apparently sent me a box of chocolates as a free gift to apologise for the delay (Dont ask me where the box is- it never came), but anyway, the walkman came a week later (Some hauser company) and lasted precisely 1 month (I did not wash this one!) I dont know why it isnt working and I am not wasting any time taking it to some repair man!
Anyway, that was my devdas experience, and before I end, let me add a word of caution- Those of you surfing at cyber cafes, DO NOT ORDER BY CREDIT CARD. I have actually seen one of my acquaintances who owns a cyber cafe pull out the credit card numbers cookies from his computers before closing. Dont ask me what he did with them. Home credit card shopping is relatively safe, but be sure.
But, everything is not so morose, internet shopping has started evolving and we are really glad to get products which are non local with ease and also, there is a lot of window shopping which can be done free of cost, sitting at home!
This is only my experience and if someone says that they had a positive experience, I would love to know about it, so I can dilute the negative I have in my mind. Happy shopping
