Marketing Strategies employed by online business

Recently I happened to buy a mattress online based on the exceptionally high rated reviews.  Let me be precise by quoting the name of company as "Wakefit Mattress" situated in Bangalore.  They claim that they do business directly from factory to end customers directly without dealer/distributor network thereby cutting down the costs significantly compared to other standard and known brands in India like Kurl-on and Sleepwell.  But the reality is their mattresses are not worth the money we pay them and not comparable with branded and standard company mattresses.  I also bought one Sleepwell mattress 8 years ago and the quality of mattress is still as good as new one without any deformations and far from reach of these Wakefit mattresses.  They also claim that the owners of the company are IITians and have high level of professionalism in terms of stage wise follow ups right from placing the order until some time after delivery also.  In fact we do not see any such actions from them once the order is on their hands and never received any follow up calls.

The point I am trying to convey is that we have to be very very careful about online shopping and don’t get carried away by the five star or four star ratings that these manufacturers show every where.  The time has come now especially in India where we need to have some kind of authentic review system with the dramatic increase in online buyers.  My honest and sincere request to all viewers is to propagate the bad marketing strategies employed by most of the manufacturers and help in someway to improve the online shopping experience.   Thanks for your patience in reading this article.
