How you interpret a book largly depends on how you interpret life. And when its an Erich Segal delight, your interpretation depends on how you interpret LOVE. For the teenagers who have had a first crush on someone, Love can be the long phone calls and endless talking. For those who have had heart breaks in this game of trust, Love can be that truth in the eyes of this partner which assures their loyalty and love. For the mature lovers, who discover their love late in life, it can be just the depth that their feelings have acquired and the feeling of belonging-ness.
These are all the feelings that Segal’s ’’Love Story’’ had stimulated within me. And the wonderfull eperience I had on reading that book pushed me into reading this one as well...But somehow, this one could hardly do anything to me compared to what the earlier one had done.
The story is about a well established Doctor, who gets a call from the husband( A Big Businessman) of his long lost love one day, who askes him to see his wife for she is suffering from a desease for which this Doctor is the best one. more than half of the book moves in flash back where the Doc remembers his past experiences with this girl and their thrilling experience, and her sudden vanishing!!! then her wedding with the man her father always wanted her to marry who is about 15 yrs elder to her.
Now the dilema for the Doc is the uneasiness he will encounter with this girl coming back, but now married and Sick!!!! Her chances of living through the illness are near to nil and this doc is the last hope.
Though the novelist has raised a deep aspect of love. The question that can love die after years or does being married to someone else, effect the feelings of inividuals???
The entire episode of the girl’s vanishing and then her friend trying to explain to the lover her sacrifices, etc. etc. . brings the novels to a very fimy turn.
Thus to all fans of romantic fiction, I would suggest, read ’’Love Story’’ if u have not and then you will feel how deep love can be and what actually is the pergation of emotions.
But for those who know the hurt of loosing love without having gotten to know the reason for their having to go away, etc. this can be a good option.
