On the 1st of may 2003, Our Boss decided to give a Humble treat to our team of eight on his 53rd Birthday. He drove us all to the Bandra West, since it was close to our Commercial Complex, and all were already hungry like wolfs. As we passed by the crowded roads, He made his mind to drop at ONLY PARATHAS. As it was a Thursday, all of us preferred a Veg-Restaurant. But he suggested, Lets have something different today. We all agreed. Akheer Jo Boss Bole, Wohi Right, Kya samjhe! As we all moved in, it was cool inside. All the corner tables were literally booked. We somehow managed to get a good table for eight of us in one corner. But it is better to reserve first & then move, becoz at times it is found crowded outside, & have to wait for 10 to 20 minutes. You can definitely count on the food becoz, If crowd is observed outside always, means COMMON SENSE, FOOD ACCHA HAI! TABHI TO ITNA RUSH HAI! We all settled down comfortably. All 8 heads kept roving all around admiring the great ambience & good decor. All the sixteen eyes kept oscillating here & there, kabhi kisi dusre table ko, to kabhi unke table decor ko, all the tables were neatly set. There was light music to meet the harmony of minds & bellies. The whole restau bustled with good enthusiastic crowd. Mostly we observed Punjabi, Gujrati & Sinddhi crowd. Also many tables were occupied with big gossipy kindda gorgeous, talkative ladies. They were really enjoying themselves to put on few more pounds over their bulky bodies. (Hey come on it is just Ankhon dekha haal!).The stewards were dressed in their uniforms, as far as I remember it was some vibrant yellow & orange printed stuff, having collared necks. It looked really funny. With ONLY PARATHAS written on their Uniforms. They were quite fast at their service.
Then, on the table the conversations began, with a toast to our Boss, on his Bday for about five to ten minutes. Till the Stewards presented the Menus on to each one of us. We all started Ogling at all the items on the Card. Oh mama...I started with some....#@$! Parathas....till the end of the Menu I found ....@%$^! Parathas. Obviously, we could read the board outside the Restaurant in English ONLY PARATHAS what else could you expect to get in their.
All of us looked at our Bosses face, thinking what to order, The question was Kaunsa Paratha Behetar rahega! Lets see...Aloo Paratha, Gobi Paratha, Muli Paratha, spring Onion Paratha, Sweet Corn Paratha, Garlic Aloo Paratha, Mixed vege Paratha, Musroom Paratha, Stuffed chanadal Paratha, Methi Paratha, Palak Paratha, Gajar Paratha, Parathas with Pure butter, Ghee, Cheese, Paneer Paratha, Stuffed Aloo Paneer Paratha, this Paratha, that Paratha, ........well I can remember only these many....Oh god! wish I had the menu card right in front of my eyes, just to read it out to everybody. Boy boy I just wondered how do the servers remember more than 100 types of parathas in the list. Hey guys but not to worry. The menus also contained softdrinks, cold drinks, Thanda Shanda like Chaas, Lassi plain & Eeeespecial, Butter milks etc.
It was a bit difficult to decide as to what should be ordered to fill our urging hunger. The aroma on the neighbouring tables was killing our patience to have anything that will be served. But to frankly tell the parathas when served in a very presentive manner. They looked so very delicious, and tempting. I tasted 3-4 kinds of parathas, they were yummmy....absolutely mouthwatering! All were just gulping down the heavy calorized stuff. They served some Chuttnis, onion rings, carrot & cucumber chips along with some cabbage finely shredded, & dahi as complimentary Salad. We kept on ordering all sorts of corn-aloo-gobi-paneer-etc.etc. parathas till we were too full, & no space to pour the Chaas & Lassi later. We all really drooled after our heavy treat. We cordially thanked our Boss to treat us in a very different style, with ONLY PARATHAS. We all wished him Long Life & Happiness. It was a occasion to be remembered, till the next treat.
Pate ki baat is the price of each dish/item was a bit high for us, but okay for our Bosses Pocket. But otherwise it is affordable. The taste of each type of paratha was distinct. The size was good enough to fill you. Plus the Chaas & Lassi, Hummm...it was awesome, felt like sitting in some Panjab-da-dhaba. It is a place ideal for families of 6-8. Official lunches could be arranged here without any hesitation, for about 10-15 persons easily. It can accommodate in an average of 70-80 persons in one take tentatively. It as a good change for kids too, becoz they too would like the taste of varities of parathas available.
