Well....here I am again.....
Back again to write a review of the Corsa Sail 1.4.....Thats 3 car reviews in 2 days....the Hyundai Getz, the Maruti Zen and now the Sail..
So let me start this off with the Corsa and not the Sail..
You remember the Corsa, right??? That cute little black sedan with a nice small pair of headlights and tail lights too which were kinda the same..
That Car was not a failure in the Indian markets, but then it wasnt exactly a runaway success either....So what could be the reasons for the stagnated and slowly declining demand for the Corsa..
lemme analyse......
In one word.....In one German word.....the answer that you want is Autobahn....which in German stands for Expressway.
The German expressways are so advanced and so competent....that cars actually race up to 250 MILES an hour at ease........And German cars are to be know to be the Safest Cars in the world........I mean they have to be since if I was going at 250 M......
Second point the Germans are filthy rich in their petroleum and oil refiniries...so fuel efficiency is not really a concern to them......
So getting back to my point.....the reasons are basically
1- The Corsa was smaller than its competition so once again the Status symbol comes into play here....the same I mentioned in the Hyundai Getz review and
2- The Car being engineered for ultimate driving pleasure (remember........petroleum countries) and having super-safety measures (cross beams, Pillars etc etc) to stand the brunt of 250 MILES an hour in case of an impact......gets much extra weight than its competition.......
Now back to the Sail...
The Sail was created to win back the Corsa Share from the Palio and the Siena and the Ikon 1.3 CLXi (Rocam engine) ....
One variant of the Sail came in the same 1.4 Trim than the Corsa came in......so essentially the car was the same under the hood.....but it had one addition, rather should I say....a deletion....
You guessed it, the boot was missing......so what, someone might ask!!!
the Answer is again.....yeah...the kerb unladen weight.......since you have no boot to drag around with you, you get two advantages
One is that your get more mileage (less dead weight to drag around) and that second is that you get more power (power:weight ration increases).
And then for the intelligent folk, and those who know status by brand and not size.....the pride of owning a German Car.....I mean....hey, I dont have a Mercedes, but I have an Opel which is the next best thing.......and by buying the Sail they get reasonable fuel efficiency and great power as well.
Oh and I forgot to mention one thing....they havent completely eliminated the boot like in the Zen, its till big...but not as big as its elder sister, the Corsa...
Ive got a friend who owns a Accent 1.5, 3 Santros and 1 Corsa Sail.
He actually says its cheaper for him to drive the Accent than the Corsa Sail in terms of fuel efficiency....but then the excitement of German Engineering is in the Corsa Sail.
So here it is....the final verdict....Definitely a Go-ahead and a must-buy if youre thinking of a Palio or an Indigo.....and want a performance Car with the Best Safety and the Best Engineering available....and at 3.99 lac ex-showroom......WOW!!!!!! its unbeatable value for money!!!!!
