Birla Open Mind, Bandlaguda Branch

No doubt when you enter the school you’ll be wowed by the campus and the name attached to it "Birla", but when you meet the counsellor and kick start your communication about the admission, you’ll get the feel that this school is no different from other CBSE schools. I went with my kid who is 6 years and 3 months of age and wanted to get him admitted in Grade 2. I found the counsellor to be very arrogant through out our conversation, she says herself a corporate trainer who doesn’t even know how to talk to a parent. God knows what sort of training she gives to teachers. After she explained about the curriculum and courses, we asked if our kid can take on more than one physical or sporting activity as he is still at a tender age and can’t decide what he would like to pursue in a longer run, to that she said that a kid is allowed to take only one sporting or physical activity and he or she can only change after an year and that too not often allowed. This is for the first time we heard such a thing from a counsellor. We have scouted 4-5 schools in our vicinity but no one has talked this way. After all the counselling, she said my kid will be taken for an assessment and we agreed to that. She took my son somewhere and within 5 minutes my son came back to me and I was surprised to know that his assessment was over. When I asked what he was asked, he said he was asked about the 6 table which he already knew and some basics questions like his name etc. He confidently told me that he answered all this. Then comes the counsellor, and she said that my kid needs a brush-up and they can only take him in grade 1 and also he isn’t of age to be in Grade 2. I clearly saw a paper on the counsellor table which stated the age eligibility for Grade 2. They eligibility was that the kid should be of 6+ years of age by April 2023 and my kid is already 6 years 3 months. Also, I don’t understand who was the expert who took an assessment in 5 mins and decided that my kid isn’t ready for Class 2. As for my kid, he got A+ grades in class 1 term exams. There are other schools we tried for his admissions and he qualified age wise and assessment wise for Grade 2. I went to Open Birla, going by their name but their standards are of same normal CBSE schools you will find in your vicinity. They are charging a premium tuition fee but you’ll be treated with inelegance. I would never ever want my kid to be studying in this school, and as a parent we have a lot of options too.
