Review : I love reading Sidney Sheldons books though I read Jackie Collins a lot. This particular work titled The other side of Midnight has every ingredients needed for a good work. The plot is based on revenge only and nothing else. Noelle Page, the actress of France is the main person who carries out this work. She had been deserted by an American soldier named Larry Douglas who took her to bed , lived with her and promised her with marriage but eventually deserted her. He even forgets that he had met a girl named Noelle Page. Ok I sympathesise with her but I dont understand the psychology behind her revenge.
Well let me tell you the summary of this novel. Shebecomes an actress in France by using her body only. Her sexual relations ranges from a petty shopkeeper to theater producer to the famous tycoon of Greece named Constatin Demiris though she had revenge in her mind. In the mean while her lover Lawrence Douglas married Catherine after a brisk romance. I think this should not have been done by Cathy bcoz she had a very good friend named Bill Freaser who had seduced her first and even taken her to meet his parents. She fell for a flirt whose main motive was to take any girl to bed. When Noelle meets Larry she makes him die for her love and behaves very indifferently. One day when he sees her wearing nothing but a piece of towel round her head, he couldnt control himself and ends up making love to her . It was then she tells him who shae was. Then both of them plan to murder Cathy. In the end the reader is taken aback .
The story is good and so is the plot construction. I didnt understand one thing. It was Larry who had done injustice so he should be punished why Cathy has to suffer? The writer has described the Love making sequences in a natural way though I find Jackie Collins writes much better I loved reading the love making scene between Catherine and Fraser which was very natural and soothing. Both of them neve knew it was going to happen and they took time to know each other and hence the enjoyed every part of it. Anyway its a great novel
