Hi Friends,
I saw this fantastic movie today which has taken me by a pleasant surprise.
Coming from UTV Spotboy(move over YRF) that has given us diverse stories like
Aamir, Welcome to Sajjanpur & A Wednesday, under the direction of
Dibakar Banerjee (Khosla ka Ghosla) this movie lives up to its baggage of
expectations.
PLOT
The story is about a Lucky(Abhay Deol) a thief by profession who will steal
almost anything that he can set his heart on. How he steals things, deals with
people, charms unsuspecting victims and gets out of sticky situations and
imprisonment.
CAST
The Movie almost entirely belongs to Abhay Deol as the charming dimpled
Lucky. He fits the charecter like a sock.
Paresh Rawal - who plays 3 different charecters that are not connected
to each other
- as the angry selfish father of lucky who gets a 2nd wife and beats /
mistreats young Lucky
Paresh Rawal has been very successfull in making sure that all 3 charecters
have a life and world of their own and their body language / mannerisms
dont spill over to the other which aptly requires an actor of Pareshs calibre.
Archana Puran Singh superbly plays Mrs Handa the aspirational wife of
Dr. Handa that wants to climb the social ladder conveniently forgetting who
helped her get there(we all know her likes) Archana Puran Singh has done a
very convincing job with this role.
Neetu Chandra as Sonal the love interest of Lucky. She is convincing as
a middle class girl whos in the FInal year of her college.
Manu Rishi as Bangali- Luckys friend(or is he) whose loyalties swing in
the direction of the wind.
There are other charecters too such as Anurag Arora(Inspector Devendra
Singh), Richa Chadda (Dolly) and Manjot Singh(Young Lucky) who
have been cast and have acted superbly.
The cast is definetely a plus point of this movie as all have done a fantastic
job.
VERDICT
Alhough there is not much in form of story as there is in form of details,
enviornment and flavor of Delhi I liked it for that reason itself.
The scene where Neetu Chandra refuses to touch her drunken sister and Dolly
wondering whether she can have non veg(depending on the day of the week) give
a glimpse of what middle class Delhi and Inda is like.
The scenes where archana puran singh is all over Lucky so he can help her
husband start his restaurant(forgetting him soon afterwards) and the one at
the police station where a woman wrongly claims the stolen jewellery as her own
show how capable the normal people are at compromising with their values.
Through all of this Abhay Deol shines through with his
charming dimpled smile and easy manner. He definitely is after your TV, Vaccum
cleaner, cutlery(and your dog) but beneath it all he yearns for his family and
some respect. This movie will definitely bring a smile on your face and stay
with you for some time.
I hope you liked this movie as much as I did.
