I was looking for a room in Calcutta using Just Dial. OYO from some source picked up the call and booked me a room for 7 days with an offer no one in the city can match. So I wanted to see the room before I pay them. For 5 hours, they didnt provide me with the Hotel number so that I can talk to the manager, go there and check. After several attempts to their helpline, finally I could speak to the manager who spoke to me in Hindi. He informed me that though I have a booking, I will not be allowed to check in since my ID proof is from the same city(i.e Calcutta). Nowhere in the world I heard this. It seemed that I am not an Indian citizen though I hold my Indian passport with a number of US, Europe and Asian visa in it.
Probably they do not want anybody from the city of the OYO rooms to check in since he can catch them with local help when things start going wrong with the booking, promised facility and what not. Luckily I didnt pay. So be very careful before you book OYO since you may have very bad experience yet you cannot do absolutely anything since you are stranger in the city.
