I created a Mouthshut account just so I could post a review and let the general public know of the scam that is taking place. I have posted the same review on a few other travel review sites.
At the time of going to press, I have had to suffer further indignation. And whilst I did not want to take names on their website, I am going to mention here that 2 kms away from this so called "Hotel", there is another hotel which has uniformed staff, laundry service, in house restaurant and more, for the same price as what Oyo Rooms charged me for this "lodge".
Please avoid Oyo Rooms Thane west with a barge pole. I had to walk half a km to reach it with my suitcase because Autos are not allowed in that lane, it is dingy, seedy, and the staff is absolutely clueless, not to mention rude.
Am not sure how other Oyo Rooms are. but am not going to wait to find out. Am just luckily am travelling alone this time and not my wife.
Not to mention Oyo insists on paying the full amount up front, although on their site they say 50% is all you need to pay.
Heres my earlier review on another site:
Whilst looking for a budget hotel around Thane I zeroed in on few properties and then had a look at Oyo. They had an option for 1799 at Thane station which I thought seemed reasonable as it was on par with what the other hotels in the area charge for similar facilities.
Pros - the rooms are exactly as shown in the photos.AC, TV, clean bed and toilet with a wardrobe are provided. However. ever heard of wolf in sheeps clothing?
Cons - There was no restaurant in the hotel, my food had to be brought from some other restaurant and I dont even know if it is hygenic or not(am still in my first night here.) The hotel by itself is very poorly kept. The staff are not trained on customer service. Visit the reception and youll get an idea of the kind of place this is.
I do not expect the world from a budget hotel. but when Oyo is offering a service, they should know that there are other hotels in the vicinity(actual hotels. not lodges dressed up to look like hotels). which are offering basic facilities like a in house restaurant, a front desk which arranges for a taxi/auto at the entrance and is far better located.(I dont want to take names of those hotels but I can provide them on demand).
The same Rs.1799 about 4 months ago at a hotel got me ac, tv, wardrobe(which this Oyo room is providing). and in addition, 24 hours room service, uniformed staff, in house restaurant, front desk, parking(actual parking, not one car parking which is always occupied), was located on the main road, and is just 4 kms from this Oyo room.
This has been an eye opener, I have made more bookings with Oyo which I am going to cancel in the next 5 minutes(because that is a double occupancy, I do not want my wife to suffer this).
A seedy lodge, dressed up to look good on the inside, does not change the fact that, it is a seedy lodge. for 750-1000 bucks Id have given you 5 stars, but for 1800. there are actual "Hotels" offering lot more.
The manager for example sits with his legs up on the table. just to give you an example of what I mean:) In a hotel. stuff like that doesnt happen, or at least shouldnt.
Having backpacked and slugged it out, I am used to all kinds of places, but this is a bit much for a hardened traveller to digest.(If you think I am kidding, feel free to contact me, I will provide you with hotel names(actual hotels, not a "lodge" dressed up as one), which are offering more, for the same price(single room. Rs. 1800. give or take 100 bucks.
Unfortunately I cant change my review on Trip advisor, else I wouldve given it Zero stars instead of 1 star.
