PAA - Amitabh’s Award Worthy Performance

PAA - Amitabh’s Award Worthy Performance.

This year Bollywood’s big budget movies like kambakht Ishq, Luck & Blue are getting flops at the box office. It is nice to know that Paa produced by the Bachchan’s home-production AB Corp on a small budget of around fifteen crores.

The The big banners only give hype to actors, locations but not to the story. The big banners do not decide the fate of the movie. It is novel story, screenplay, good music, brilliant direction & performances are very essential for the success of any movie. Films are made with the cooperation of all the crew members involved in it from director to writer to actors.

When our Hindi film directors always stick to their old tried & tested formulas, instead of experimenting with different themes, watching Paa, the most anticipated films of the year was wonderful & refreshing due to several reasons.

In Paa, the type of relationship between the father & son has been portrayed has never been in any other movie. The unique relationship stimulates human emotions in a sensational manner.

Paa is about a twelve years boy Auro (Amitabh Bachchan) and his family. Auro is suffering from Progeria. Mentally he is his age but physically looks like a sixty year old man. He lives with his mother Vidya (Vidya Balan), who is a doctor. His father Amol (Abhishek Bachchan) is a politician. The movie is about their relationship, emotions, struggles and a lot more.

Paa is a well written and directed movie, with lot of emotions, fun and fabulous performances.

The film has been brilliantly narrated cutting away from unnecessary melodrama. The first half is little slow but second half is brilliant with enough in it to keep the interest. The highlight of the movie is the climax.

Paa has successfully handled the serious emotion filled subject with a touch of humor. Hats off to Amitabh Bachchan and director R. Balakrishnan.

Coming to the performances Amitabh Bachchan delivers inarguably the best performance of the year. Without a doubt the legend deserves all the awards and accolades for his portrayal of Auro. It’s a very challenging role, but the great actor has performed fabulously. His body language and facial expressions supported by that wonderful make-up.

Abhishek Bachchan is good & puts in a decent & mature performance as a politician and Paa to Auro.Vidya Balan is brilliantly expressive and puts in a confident act.Arundhati Nag as the grandmother of Auro & Paresh Rawal as Abhiskek’s Father are pleasant in their extended special appearance.

Director R. Balki has handled this emotion filled theme with a perfect touch of humor. His storytelling is supremely simple and subtle. Through his crisp writing, he touches multiple issues from politics, relationships, & media without being preachy or paltry.

The film scores very high in the technical department. Music by maestro Illayaraja and lyrics by Swanand Kirkire make for melodious songs. Mudi Mudi & ‘Mere Paa’ track is very nice. The makeup by Domini Till (King Kong) and Christien Tinsley (The Passion of the Christ) deserve special appreciation for turning Bachchan to Auro, a realistic looking Progeria patient.

PC Sreeram’s cinematography and Anil Naidu’s editing are just brilliant. Most of the dialogues are timely and relevant to today’s situation.

Overall Paa is a movie that touches the sensitive cords of human emotions. This movie will not only leave a tear in the eye but also bring a smile on the lips.A novel story explores all the relationships very sensitively.
