Padmanabhapuram Palace-Kanyakumari District

On my last visit to Trivandrum, We decided to visit this famous Palace which is around 50km from Trivandrum and around 20km from Nagerkoil.

Even though this palace is situated in Kanyakumari in Tamilnadu, this is still taken care of by Kerala Government.

This Palace is a wooden mansion. It has special black shiny floors which are made from a unique combination of egg white, jaggery, lime, burnt coconut, charcoal and river sand, secret underground passages leading to a palace 2 km away in case of an invasion ( at the opening tunnel itself we wanted badly to go inside and see it), 17th and 18th century murals, a dining hall that can accommodate 1000 people, four poster medicinal bed, granite dance hall, Belgian Mirror, big four poster bed, we cannot stop getting astonished seeing all these wonderful sights.

This was the ancient capital of the Travancore Kings, which was built around 1601 AD.You cannot take photos or wear footwear inside the Palace as it may damage the floors. All days , except Mondays and National holidays the Palace is open from 9am to 5 pm.This Palace is located near Veli Hills which is a part of the Western Ghats. The kids will really love to see all this. One can never forget about the historical importance of this place, Next time also I would love to visit the Palace.
