Rafi, Mecartin loses footing

Rafin Mecartin, whose Chatikkatha Chandu was one of the biggest hits of 2003-04, comes back with Pandippada, with Dileep and Navya.

The story revolves around a 30 acre plot in Tamil Nadu, that is owned by some chettiyar, who sells it to Dileep [Bhuvan- real estate agent, already neck deep in debt, who takes more loans to buy this property]. When he goes there, he finds that the plot is a hot property, in the sense, too hot to handle. Two ruthless landlords are fighting each other for it, and will send a pandippada each, and kill anyone who comes to buy it.

Bhuvan’s friend Salim Kumar is attacked and the papers of the property is taken by one landlord[prakash raj]’s pandippada. They do not know that Dileep is the real owner. Dileep, in an attempt to get the papers of his house from Prakash Raj, joins his pandippada, loves other landlord [Rajan P Dev]’s daughter, and makes us cringe and crib throughout the movie, through silly, nonsensical jokes. He tries to bring peace between the two landlords by which he could get his land back. Believe me, the rest of the story is only guessable.

We see the death of comedy in the movie. Only one word to describe it- overdone... Scenes like Dileep slipping on cowdung and eating hot pickle get on to the nerves of the viewers. Nobody in the cast except Prakash Raj does anything worth watching in the movie. Harishree Ashokan and Salim Kumar dont stand a chance- neither of them are able to evoke even a giggle in 90% of the occassions, given the weak script. Navya Nair is wasted. She has been wasted all the way till date, since the movie Nandanam. Dileep is slowly but surely losing his crowd pulling abilities, it would seem...

Suresh Peters’ music evoked a lot of expectations, but they also were in vain. A couple of songs are bearable, but nothing compared to the foot stamping numbers he has given in Punjabi house and Runway...

Over all, a disappointing movie!!! But of course, given the falling enjoyment standards of the average malayali, and the aggressive promotion that Dileep gives to his movies, there is every chance that this movie also, like Kochi Rajavu, make it to a financial no loss situation....

One request to Rafi mecartin- dear friends, we want more movies like Thenkashi pattanam and Chatikkatha Chantu, which makes us forget the tension that we bear in real life... Not nonsensical comedies, made just for the sake of it, filling in some crowd pullers and expecting them to do the rest... Chatikkatha chanthu was a huge hit in spite of not having a superstar hero, just because you could feel for Chanthu... Here, all that the audience feel is the pain of pulling out their own hair...

HORRIBARIBLE....
