Mr. Vishwas Patil is very famous for his book Panipat . This book is based on the war between Marathe and Ahmadshah Abdali, Afghanistan. Still today Maharashtrian people use word "Panipat" if something goes very wrong or disaster happens. This is the impact of the Panipat war .
This books starts with the politics in Shanivarwada , Pune. How Peshwa decides to send his His cousin Sadashivrao ( Bhau) and his elder son Vishwasrao to the war. Unfortunately most of the other Indian kings at that time did not ready to help Maratha ( e.g. Surajmal Jat of Bharatpur and Rajputs, Sikhs, Shuja-ud-Daula) . War started On 14 January 1761 at Panipat. At the starting both armies had fought bravely. It is believed that 60000-70000 were killed in fighting. Abdali won the war but never again dared to come back again in India.
Vishwas Patil has written this book in such a way that when you start to read your mind goes to that period , battlefield. This book gives the real picture of the war. I highly recommend this book for reading. It is your value for money.
