PAresh rawal is one of the finest actors in indian industry, he is always able to live to the roles and performs them with huge talent and heart. Rawal who has been acting since his early school days. He studied in narse institute of commerce and economics in mumbai. Born on may 30th 1950 played several roles villain in the early film career and went to comedy lead roles. Rawal has a gujrati backround and is married to former miss india swaroop sampat.
Before making entry into bollywood he choose to work in theatre. Holi directed by ketan mehta was his first film, where he had a small role, this was also aamir khan was film in a short role. There were some more flops films like dharam aur kanoon, lorie, mirch masala. Then finally he was signed for a villain role in the film arjun along with sunny deol by rahul rawail, the role suited him and he began to get more villains roles and then came a short role in the film naam, starring sanjay dutt. He plays ranaand I can still remember the dialogue he tells sanjay dutt, when sanju joins his gang. ’’ Yeh one way street hai jahan aane ka raasta tu hai lekin jaane ka rasta koi nahin hai.
Next was the role of dishonest police officer in the film dacait directed by rahul rawail, the movie was a hit. MOre big directors started signing him for their movies subhash ghai for ramlakhan and j.p dutta for hathyar in which he plays a tamil gangster in. ONe of my favorite performance of him has to be in the film kabzaa starring sanjay dutt, the film has the same story as the aamir khan film ghulaam. PAresh rawal plays velji bhai soda, as a villain he always had a comedy touch on him.
next another good villain performance was in the film awargi directed by mahesh bhatt, where he plays gangster bhau, along with anupam kher who plays lala jamal khan, the talks between the two in the whole film are really worth a watch. david dhawan signs him for the film swarg for a small villain role, the film was a hit. Next was saathi directed by mahesh bhatt agai in which plays pasha, I think this movie is very underrated, it was a hit in that time in 1991 and had very good songs. ALong with paresh rawal, aditya pancholi gives his finest performance, even the pakistani crickter mohsin khan stars in this one.
Then comes one of his finest performance till date in the film sir where he plays velji bhai gets a national award for best supporting actor, and a filmfare award for the best villain as well. Sir was a well made movie by mahesh bhatt. Followed by ketan mehta’s film sardar which got him a another national award film which won him international acclaim also.
Now comes one of his funniest roles, ever in the film andaz apna apna where he plays tejaa, This is the movie where all the comedy started I was surprised that noone in this film got an award and the film wasn’t a hit also. More comedy roles were in films like mohra, mr and mr’s khiladi the reporter, in baazi as the comedy villain. He has also done some supporting actor roles in films like the gentleman, aar yaar paar, raja in which he won a best supporting actor award for playing a mental person. I haven’t seen tammana but I heard people says it’s his best performance but the film flopped though. He has excelled in the film hero no.1 playing karishma kapoor’s dadaji.
In chachi 420 he gives a another great performance, when he falls in love with kamal hassan. The real success came with the Film hera pheri, I think his best performance till date, where he plays babu rao aftey, the film was directed by priyadarshan, who still sings paresh rawal for his movies. The role of babu rao is still remembered. Akshay kumar and sunil shetty also do justice to their parts in the film.
With films like yeh tera ghar yeh mera ghar, aankhen, aawara pagal deewana, deewane huye pagal, garam masala and the recent hit mala maal weekly he has become one of the best comedians in hindi cinema also. Mala maal weekly didn’t have that many big stars, but with such stars like him, people actually went to see the films in theathre and it became a hit.
