Parugu - Pretty Good

Parugu is a nice clean entertainer right from the word Go. The movie slowly but brilliantly builds the case for a dramatic showdown at the climax

–only to end in rather clichéd climax that doesn’t offer anything new to the viewers.

While there’s no suspense factor in the movie, (If you have seen at least three Telugu movies in your life, you can. Easily guess how the movie is going to end) what makes this movie an interesting fare is the gripping and entertaining screenplay.

Bommarillu Bhaskar may not have produced another Bommarillu but this movie proves that he is a very good craftsmen. This being second movie on the marquee, it may be a tad immature to bestow the title of Great

Director on him but he very well has the potential to become one.

I

am not going to tell you the story of this movie because you already

know it. If you don’t, here’s some advice for you. Story is the not the

USP of this movie. So don’t worry about it.

The movie has no

boring moments and contrary to what some reviewers suggested, the

second half jells well into story and doesn’t look awkward at all. The

tone gets justifiably serious in the last half an hour. For a normal

viewer who carries no baggage with him or her, the movie offers nice

return on the investment (Popcorn and Soda included).

Allu

Arjun, with the title of a “Style Star”, appears in a slightly

deglamorized but memorable role in this movie. Though his performance

is adequate, it is Prakash Raj who walks away with all the honors. He

acts mostly with his eyes in the first half and has no lengthy speeches

save for one towards the end of the movie when he breaks down in front

of Allu Arjun.

Sheela, as Allu Arjun’s ladylove, fit the bill

perfectly. Her girl-next-door looks blend well with the village

atmosphere she lives in. Her acting skills though are nothing to write

home about. Poonam Bajwa impresses in her two cents role.

Special

mention should go to the cinematographer of this movie. This is the

area where the movie excels. The misty backdrop, the near-dark chase

sequences, the camera angles – everything is a treat to watch. Music is

passable while dance choreography has nothing new to offer.

All in all, a good movie for the families with a nice message at the end.

My rating: Good.
