I am watching this A1, awesome, intellectual movie right from my school days when I read it in 6th standard. I used to visualize myself as Durga with my younger brother Apu, tying up his small hands in mine & running in midst of paddy fields to watch the train runing through in the tracks. Dream & quest in their eyes have been casted so beautifully in the film. Indir Thakurun, the old aunt of Apu & Durga ...... she has been cast excellent in the film.... Sarbojoya, the mother of these children is just so tired to fight against poverty ..... she is always in anger but with deep coziness of a mom.
Yes the father is always so cool & calm inspite of all adverse situations ..... all total the movie truly deserves all prizes of the era. Satyajit Ray was a real genius to direct such a film from Bibhuti Bushans one of the elegant novels. His directed films seem to be like stories of our own life. We all et so accustomed with the characters. Music in Pather Panchali is just beyond any words to describe. The sitar jhankar by Pandit Ravi Shankar when Durga dies fills our heart with pathos & eyes with tears. Pandit moshai of the Pathshala is a funny charecter in one words.
PATHER PANCHALI is to be watched by everyone right from age 7 to 70. The essence of the movie lies in the day to day hazardous life our our GRAM BANGLA (villages), the simple but poor villagers who have dreams in their eyes which cannot be fulfilled, the joy in serene nature........... I just love to watch the movie again & again at least once a day !!!
