Avoid entering this house

Never judge a book by its cover. This saying holds completely true for Patiala House. What you see in very promising promos like high voltage drama, entertaining situations and so many other things are just the interesting moments in the film. There is nothing more which you will miss out if you don’t see this film and if you have seen all the promos. A very disappointing film.

The makers must have thought that family drama combined with Cricket ka Tadka* will be a fantastic recipe for a superhit film. But the film falls flat in order to trying to achieve that. The basic premise of the film is wrong and indigestible. When Rishi Kapoor is so against the England then why he stays in England? If you hate a country and its people so much then what is the need to stay in that country. No one is stopping you to go to India. Just come back to India and problem solved. But in this film Rishi Kapoor not only staying in England for ages but has created a huge family also.

The film is full of typical Panjabi family characters to add masala. Story goes like that Rishi Kapoor is very authoritative father and everyone in the family has to follow his orders, good or bad. Nobody has the right to follow his /her dream. So Akshay Kumar also had to forget his dream of being a cricketer and play for England. Rishi Kapoor is dead against the idea of him playing for England for no solid reason given. Then after 17 years Anushka Sharma encourages him to follow his dream again. The rest of the film is how other family members support him in this endeavor. No prize for guessing that Akshay succeeds at the end and his father has to bow down.

Story and screenplay is very weak and does not give any moments to remember. Akshay Kumar tries very hard to look convincing but he fails to do so. Rishi Kapoor is very loud. The best is Anushka Sharma in the whole lot. She is very natural and effortless. Rest of the characters are ok while some are very loud.

On the whole I would suggest to save your money and avoid entering in this Pagal House. There are many more good films lined-up this year. My rating is one and half for Patiala House.
