Jalianwala Bagh repeated in Gurgaon! This is the general reaction of many who watched on TV the barbarous Haryana police beating helpless Honda workers. It is a shame on the democratic face of our country. So sad, so humiliating. In fact words fail to describe police atrocities this time.
As in the back ground, there was dispute between Honda management and workers over retrenchment of hundreds of employees. Yesterday the retrenched employees had led a procession . The Gurgaon police tried to stop the procession and resorted to lathi charge. However the workers clashed with the police in which several of the policemen got injured. Upon this the police retreated. However they invited the workers to come to the Gurgaon secretariat . This was the real trap. In the premises of the secretariat the workers were rounded by hundreds of policemen and the police did all the worst things in retaliation. Scenes of huddled and helpless workers being beaten brutally is so much boiling. I could see one worker praying with both hands folded and 4-5 policemen thrashing him brutally. What is this? How the Gurgaon police explain these things.
See the results. 700 workers injured , many of them seriously. All the Gurgaon hospitals have been flooded with injured workers. And few of the seriously injured have disappeared from hospitals. Their names appear in the injured list in the hospitals however their family members do not find their traces. It means few of the injured have died and police has destroyed their dead bodies. This is a real dangerous situation..
What ever the stupid Haryana politicians say to cover up the situation, the scenes covered by news channels are enough to reveal the fact.
We all know that politics has become so dirty in our country. So has got the mentality of the people in administration. Police brutality is so common and this is what they inherited from the British. Indian police is among the most brazen and uncivilized police in the world. Harassment of people by police is a day to day affair.
There are local trains which connect Delhi to Faridabad etc. GRP people are terror for the daily commuters. Few of the passengers who have opposed them have been thrown out of running train. An incident when an infant died under the boots of a GRP personnel is not old. And inquiries are going on! Will these terrorists ever be punished. God knows.
However quick action by news channel journalists and bold coverage by them is really commendable. Their action will be more commendable if they follow the issue and just not use and throw it.
