I travelled from Bangalore to Goa in a Paulo travels bus with my wife in Oct 08. We bought tickets for Volvo sleeper buses from their Indira nagar agent and were charged 1200 per person one way. But when we reached the bus station just before departure, we figured out that it was a normal sleeper cum seat bus and no one from Paulo was responding when we enquired about Volvo.
Not only that, the sleeper portion was really pathetic as it was less than 4 feet wide for 2 people and not even high enough for a normal person to sit. So we had to lay down the entire route.
To pound on our misery, the bus took 18 hours to reach Panaji, while normally it takes or supposed to take 14 hours. Imagine lying down in a old, smelly and cramped place for 18 hours!
It was a cold night and bus did not even have enough blankets for everyone and whatever they had was very old and dirty. It was a rude shock after paying Rs 1200 per person.
Last, the places the bus was stopping for refreshment were also very bad. Especially, the place they stopped for toilets in morning was one of the worst I had seen in India. I wonder how they expected people to do anything there.
My advice to all travellers is to avoid Paulo and instead take KSRTC, train or even drive yourself.
