PC World a well-known magazine in computer print media has for many years catered to the computer enthusiasts. PC World India is a group dedicated to taking information the reader. It has held its own against several rivals in the keenly battled contest for supremacy.
The battle though has seen some dilution in the previously content rich magazine. Its association with its American counterpart enables it to provide a regular tips and tricks section for various facets of computers such as hardware, software apart from a section where readers queries are answered. Coverage of recent events in the computer world along with other news and reviews carries it through. It also has some monthly issues dedicated to various topics such as viruses, under the title virus busters, shareware and freeware, etc.
The added advantage is a regular competition where the reader has to answer a few questions after going through the articles and formulate a slogan for the magazine. The competition form can then be mailed or faxed to the PC World office. It did appear to be a faked competition to me until I tried it once and happened to win a prize forcing me to admit it is a genuine competition.
The slim magazine at a price below the rest at seventy five rupees attempts to cater to all sections of computer enthusiasts ranging from the hardcore computer game fans to the nerdy techno geeks. The game fans are satiated by a regular games columns reviewing the latest games and tips and tricks for games. A large section of the accompanying CD is also dedicated to games. This though affects the space reserved for other utilities and programs thereby affecting the image of the magazine though it has managed to do what other magazines have found it impossible to do - cater to all sections of computer lovers through the pages of a single magazine at an honest price.
It thereby is a recommended read for any computer enthusiast not put off by the coverage of games in the accompanying CD.
