A page turner

Talking about a john grisham book always gets me.the book, the pelican brief is a thrilling saga and by far one of the best grisham books in a while.he always finds a way to keep you going in the book.odd characters that come and go, chilly scenarios and its like watching the movie in your head cos he finds a way of piecing pictures together in such a way that they unravel in your head.its really great.

about the book, i read it a long time ago but I think I can still remember some of it.there are a series of deaths no one can quite explain and this law student darby shaw comes up with a theory that explains it but she doesn’t know this.the book finds its way to the white house some how and the government set out to kill her.after dinner with her boyfriend/law professor, he gets killed in a car bomb that was meant for her and she immediately goes underground in a bid to survive her assassins.

this is the fun part in the book.i mean where she dyes here hair differnt colours, avoiding using her credit cards but with ocassional slips that cause her to have near death experiences and then enter the reporter who helps her in most of the rough patches she gets into.i mean being on the run certainly is no fun after this book.

and yes it was made into a movie but I never saw it cos I feel most of the magic and capturing of events would somehow be compromised.it wouldn’t tell itlike the book.a lot of the good stuff would be glossed over in a bid to squeeze the book into a two and a half hour movie or something.the darby shaw character was played by the queen of big smiles Julia Roberts and one of the most intense actors I know, Denzel Washington.absolutely brilliant and I think the two would have done the characters justice, being very accomplished actors in hollywood.

all in all the book was great.

i however agree with one of the reviews which says that john grisham has a specific style of writing which becomes predictable after a while if you’ve read enough of his books.he needs to come up with something new to envelope the reader and keep him turning the page.i mean I have had a particular book(i think its the partner)but I have not been able to finish it cos it tires me out.yep, he needs a new writing style.
