The Wolfang Peterson film Based on a true story of an event occurred in history, begins with the crew of fisherman returning home from a long sea journey back to their family. They are happy to meet their dear ones again after a long time, but their happiness does not stand for long, when their captain Billy Tyne (George Clooney) gives their members the news that they would go fishing in two days time.
The fishermen could have stayed back but fishing always being their passion, their need for money and their love for sea makes all of them go with their captain Billy Tyne. Early in the morning they leave for their fishing journey towards the deep sea(North Atlantic). With six fisherman (Bobby, Murphy, Alfred Pierre, Bugsy, Sally, headed by the captain Billy Tyne) and equiped with all their fishing equipment, the Andrea Gail(fishing boat) heads for the fishing grounds of North Atlantic. From here begins the adventures of the six fishermen who are out in the sea to catch fish and earn big.
After catching tons of fish in their way, Andrea Gail heads for the Flemish Cap where these fishermen catch quite a good ton of fish. In between the captain receives the news that a big storm is expected and that they should not proceed further. On receiving the news Billy Tyne poses two options before their crew members - 1) They stop here in the middle of the sea and wait for the storm to calm down ahead (this would save their lives but all the fish which they had caught would spoil and all their hard work would go in vain or 2) They fight the storm and if they are saved they would be rich. Members agree to fight the storm.
Taking the challenge and risking their lives Andrea Gail with captain Billy Tyne head for an event that had never took place in history. Huge waves splashing from all sides, the sea looks ferocious like a monster, as if it is going to eat all of those who will come in its way. On the another side yet another small ship is found to be in the middle of the deadly storm, but are rescued by the airforce(Helicopter) pilots, but are unable to come to the aid of Andrea Gails fishermen as their copter runs out of fuel and they barely manage to save their lives themselves.
With computer generated lightening and huge splashing waves, the director gives us a realistic image of the scene in front of our eyes. Captain and his crew are fighting waves which are 100 to 150 feet high and winds which are moving at a speed of 120 miles per hour. In the end they are unable to fight the unpleasant and unfavourable nature, and succumb to a huge wave of around 170 feet high which engulfs in it Andrea Gail and turns it entirey upside down. All the six fishermen with Captain Billy Tyne die in the storm.
They take with them their dreams of becoming rich and leave behind an event to talk about which had never occurred in history - The Perfect Storm......
