Cute rabbits, terrible movie.

Director: Will Gluck

Cast: James Corden, Margot Robbie, Rose Byrne, Domhnall Gleeson, Daisy Ridley, Elizabeth Debicki

Peter Rabbit and his three sisters Mopsy, Flopsy and Cotton-tail enjoy their lives in The Mcgregor garden when a distant relative moves in which triggers a battle of wits between Peter and Domhnall Gleeson’s Thomas Mcgregor who wants nothing but to get rid of the rabbits.

The movie has a very talented cast but fails to deliver on almost all fronts. I couldn’t find myself to care about any of the characters no matter how cute they looked. Peter rabbit is clearly a film for children and children will have a good time with it but I don’t think adults will like it very much. Nowadays films like the recent Coco and other films by Disney & Pixar have told exceptional stories with thought provoking themes, heartfelt moments, great comedy and amazing characters that audiences of all ages can enjoy and I wished Peter rabbit could have all that but its just a dumb kids movie.

The plot is nonsensical with several implausible moments. The film is utterly generic and tries to do nothing unique. The rabbits are super cute and the film is pretty to look at with great visual effects especially when it comes to the CGI rabbits but the movie is extremely unfunny with repetitive jokes that almost always fell flat. If the movie was stronger in the comedy it would’ve been a much better film.

In the end Peter rabbit is panders to a very specific demographic which is a big misstep. The nonsense story and the utter lack of anything funny is why I wouldn’t recommend this movie especially to adults.

I’m gonna go with a 2/5 stars for Peter Rabbit.
