I hate watching movies on PC, so I had to find a way to watch all the new movies coming only on CDs and DVDs. I decided to buy a DVD player and started looking at the market. The philips Ramu ad had me hooked. I checked all over the web and found this cute little piece.
Reading certain How to...s on the web, I found that Progressive Scan in DVD players was unnecessary for people like me who hold a normal appliance called TV.
For e.g. from Best Buy-
The first thing to understand about progressive-scan technology is that it wont do you any good unless you have a digital TV, or a monitor capable of at least SDTV resolution (which includes HDTV and EDTV monitors).
Hence I decided that it was an optional feature to have in the player and I could do without it. I was a bit tight on the budget as well.
Philips DVP 320 served all my constraints pretty well
After using it, I noticed that
Its tray was mechanical, press the lid and it opens. This is useful when power isnt there and you want to take the CD out. Useful many a time when I rented the CD/DVD and have to return it and the power isnt there.
Its remote was more powerful than the buttons on the player. So have to keep track of where I keep the remote.
Its audio output is excellent
It plays all the CDs that I have tried and those which failed in others players. (Ha ha!)
Didnt trouble me even once or even with one CD/DVD for the past one and a half years.
Simple enough for my mom to figure out how to use it.
I bought it for 4990/- and then I thought it was Value for Money, but the current price is 3990/- which is further VFM.
