Philips DVD-630 DivX

I was initially unsure about buying the 630 as I had not seen any reviews on the Web, however I am glad that I went ahead and bought it. So far it has played all of my VCD and DivX movies on CD-R/DVD+R (on a variety of no-brand cheap media) with no problems.

The unit itself is stylish for a budget model and appears to be solidly built. I went for this model over the Toshiba as the Philips web site posts upgrades for the operating system and I wanted to be able to upgrade in the future if necessary.

630 is not able to display more than the first 11 characters of a file name. Annoying when trying to find a specific jpeg or mp3 file. 11 chracters Also it has a problem with some Xvid files but a firmware upgrade will probably cure this. Philips have so far posted two firmware upgrades which has increased compatibility. A good player for the money.

It Plays: - divx - mpeg - 3ivx - Xvid (Not goed/not play every file) for xvid you have to do ff with virtualdub as written below : Open VDub and load your film and klik on OK Setup: Video - direct stream copy Audio - full processing mode Audio - conversion - 44.100HZ Audio - conversion - high quality Audio - compression - No Compression (PCM)- File - save WAV (duurt ong. 10 min.) - Close VDub as you were finished if gives warning can try this for video Setup: Audio: - WAV audio - (default wav)

Audio: - Full Processing Mode Audio: - Conversion - 44.100Hz Audio: - Conversion - High Quality Audio: - Compression - Lame MP3 Video: - Compression - Divx File : - Save as Avi if this is good then you have schronous voice with the video.

Subtitles: - Burn the .srt(subtitles ) file under the same directory & and the same name of the avi file. - to Display press the subtitle button There are much other players available in the market, but this one looks better and also not a costly option.
