If you tend to use the Internet to read reviews of MNC products in India, here is a story repeated over and over. Do not assume a MNC sells the same product here in India. The version of DVD 736K sold in India is 691 that has a flaw - it will not recognize MultiSession CDs (CD-r written more than once - Write the CD-R once - this is session 1 and almost all CD players CDROM readers will read this session; then if there is space left, you write on it again later - this is session 2 and so on - thus multi-session. Try this out on your CD player - many wont be able to see the session 2, 3 etc) You waste all that valuable space if your DVD player cannot see it - a new CD every time you add even a single file so your ancient DVD player can read it! If you read the review at an other site (UK?), you would assume that the player would easily handle all such technicalities and with Philips actually drafting a Red book, White Book etc on CD reading youd expect everything to be perfect. NOT SO! Pay not more than Rs 2800/- for this DVD player (The Q35 from Philips also has the same flaw).
How did I reach this figure? Think of a random number, multiply it by the $ rate, think of how a MNC prices its products, remember that a DVD player has a motor and a few chips made from sand; finally make an offer that will drive the MNC out of this country - Indira Gandhi had the right idea when she booted out Coca Cola :-) Oops, they have to pay YOU not the other way around. Ok, anyway, the 736K - 691 produces sharp stills from your digital photos on your CD Good MP3 file management - poor long file name support, Guess which song is playing Gloria ---! No ID3 tag support. Can program your MP3 selections and the player seems to remember them even after powering off - nice! DVD is OK. VCD play seems OK too. Dont have the resources to test them thoroughly, maybe a Video magazine with a test lab should do this for us instead of giving us vague articles to get free junkets. All in all buy this and give Philips a hard time.
