~Back Again With A Bang~

In 2001, Priyadarshan’s Hera Pheri had the entire Indian audience in splits. Now, the three fabled characters of this bizarre situational comedy are here to tickle your funny bone. Naturally, expectations are skyhigh and new director Neeraj Vohra has an uphill task ahead of him in order to satisfy his audiences. To a large extent, he succeeds but it is only because of the excellent performance of the entire star cast.

THE PLOT

As expected, this movie begins where the last one ended. Akshay Kumar (Raju) , Suniel Shetty (Shyam) and the peerless Paresh Rawal (Baburao Ganpatrao Apte) are now filthily rich and are enjoying their new-found money. But Akshay’s love of gambling in order to multiply his money is still there and so he invests in a wobbly scheme that Bipasha Basu gives him. Ti\o invest the requisite amount, he borrows money and promises to double it. But when Bipasha takes his money (and the loaned money) and vanishes into thin air, the three characters land up in hot water. They are back to being poor.... poor people who owe Rs50 lakhs. Thus, begins the comedy of errors.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS

Neeraj Vohra does a commendable job of stepping into the shoes of Priyadarshan. The storyline is wafer-thin, but that is okay in a comedy flick. Besides, Akshay, Suniel and Paresh are there to save the day with incredible chemistry and comic timing. The movie falters in some places but overall, the movie is fast-paced and keeps you in splits for most of the time.

What I did not like was the opening song featuring the former starlet Dia Mirza. The song has no lyrics to speak of and the music is mundane and Dia Mirza only gyrates booticiously on the screen trying very hard to do a Shakira or Madonna in a Marathi Sari.

CAST PERFORMANCE

AKSHAY KUMAR

Definitely one of the strongest performers in the flick, Kumar delights the audience with excellent expressions and flawlessly delivered dialogues. His crazy-brained ideas are a delight to see as they land him in hot water more often than not.

PARESH RAWAL

Paresh rawal does a brilliant job of playing the simpleton Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, who has been immortalised now as one of the funniest characters of the decade.

SUNIEL SHETTY

Playing the simple, straight forward and no-mischief bloke, Suniel is good in the movie. He largely plays the mediator and pacifier or even avenger between Akshay and Paresh.

RIMI

Just one sentence. Good in a brief role.

BIPASHA

Her role is more substantial than Rimi’s, but still nothing to write home about. Her next film, Corporate should see her in full glory.

A SHORT NOTE

Leave your brains at the door, otherwise you will not enjoy it. At the moment, it is the best movie currently running in cinemas as Chup Chup Ke and MI: 3 are nothing great. part Three of Hera Oheri has been announced and will be produced by A.A nadiadwala

MOUTHSHUT

during the interval, INOX has an advertisement of apna mouthshut. Great to see that. Anyways, even Young Buzz ( read my review on it) was advertised.
