Wow is the word to describe this movie. Hollywood sometimes sets itself some standards that only it can break ... so before I go into describing the movie and all let me just take a moment here to fill you guys up on the things happening while and during the making of the movie....
Did you guys know that this movie was shot in just 2 days flat? Any ways I remember seeing the making of phone booth on Star Movies. Well Joel Schumacher is the director of this one and one thing I know is that he is very particular about his casting. He hand picks the stars for his movie. This is one of the gifts that he has... and he uses is well too. While casting for this movie he didnt go for the big names then. Colin Farrell wasnot that big at that time. So kudos to Mr. Joel Schumacher for this.
So the movie... you would see many characters in this movie, all of them have some part to play. But in the movie all you would notice is Colin Farrell ( playing the role of Stuart Shepard). Well this guy is a publicist in New York. A married guy, very busy yes a typical New Yorker! and the other guy that you wouldnt see but hear a lot from is ... Kiefer Sutherland( he plays the role of the caller). The movie starts out with a great narration.... simple yet setting up the movie.
THOSE WHO HAVENT SEEN THIS MOVIE.... SKIP TO THE LAST PARA WITH STAR MARKS
so the story in a nut shell, this guy, stuart, is cheating on his wife. He always goes to this one phone booth in 5th avenue to call his girlfriend up ( Katie Holmes). just as he is about done, the phone in the phone booth rings... and as the narrative says, when a phone rings you have to answer it ... so he does ... and how he wishes he hadnot. On the other side of the line is this guy who knows everything about him. Now he gives colin farrell two choices, one he call up his GF and his wife and tell the truth or he can die ... well .. the story goes on and on ... the caller is a psycopath who wants to eradicate evil or some thing like that ... he totally plays mind games with stuart... he even jokes in between ... but the entire movie is very well played.. you feel involved in the drama. You put your self in Colin Farrells characters shoes and you start thinking. Then ... in an ensuing scuffle, the sniper kills the pimp... now ... no one can see the sniper ... so they think Colin Farrell did it ... the sicko even planted a gun there ... so now there is police, press ... his wife and his girlfriend all gathered around him .. all thinking ... trying to figure out what is going on? well .. then our hero plays a plan and manages to wrangle out of this situation .... how ever he has to tell the truth ... meanwhile police try and trace the place where the sniper is hiding ... when they get there .. they find the pizza delivery guy dead ... the guy whom Colin Farrell pissed off at the start of the movie... so every one thinks that the psycho is dead .. but he aint ... and for a tiny moment at the end you can see Kiefer Sutherland this is how the movie ends ...
Now why should you watch this movie ..
one thing for sure, the direction is A class...
Casting is superb .. and the people play their characters very well .. atleast those who matter in the movie do it very well ... if nothing .... watch the movie for the story content ... it is engrossing ... and very well twisted at the right moments .. more over with just 81 mins of movie ... you would feel good ... so my rating for this movie ...
Direction 9/10
acting 8/10
story 9/10
camerawork/ cinematography 8.5 /10
bottom line ... definitely worth a watch
